Patriots fans taunted Torrey Smith about dead brother

If you put a microphone in front of every drunk guy at a football stadium you would hear a lot worse. It happens in every stadium every Sunday. Doesn't make it right but this occurrence shouldn't be so astonishing IMO

problem is this hit mainstream media

Let us consider the source (a Buffalo fan, who apparently decided to visit for the first time in months for some schadenfreude), who forgot about his promise to return and admit his predictions were incorrect.

I actually did come back on here after that game just like I promised and even responded in that same thread, but nobody responded to me so I faded quietly into the night.

There are POS fans everywhere. NE is no exception.

Ultimately, this has little to do with sports or fandom. If you're taunting someone over their dead sibling, you're a s*** human being. There really isn't much else to say about it.

This is true. I also wonder if Torrey Smith is big enough to tweet about the New England fans who have denounced the idiocy of comments made by a faction of Patriots "fans" and indeed provided him with support for the loss of his brother?

I doubt either of those will be picked up by Smith or the mainstream.

There is absolutely no excuse what so ever for that, and no plausible way to rationalize that twisted- sick behavior. Drugs, alcohol or emotions are not excuses.

This is the price that is paid for putting technology in the hands or morons. Patriots fans my ass, just punks looking for a reason to spew their hate. I'm not going to be painted with that brush- ESPN

Other than that, I have no strong feelings on the subject.

Whoever did this is sick, however, how does he know if he is indeed a Patriots fan? Anybody can act like anybody out there on the internet, all you have to do is ask #Kekua.

We all have our idiots suporting our teams
T.V. shot to death after Saints beat the Redskins 33-30 in OT. GUN CONTROL! - YouTube

The cool thing is that we understand its not the masses, and try to police ourselves so our kids can enjoy the game, and make it a family experience.
Which you are doing with this thread. So, thank you for posting here. I hope Raven fans and others acknowledge the effort you have made to set the set the story strait, very classy NE.

Maybe the "blogger" at ESPN could find out if those idiots were ESPN fans and call them ESPN fans.

And maybe the "blogger" could "tweet" and send this thread to Torrey and let him know how real Patriots fans feel about those imposters.

I certainly don't hold this against the Pats fanbase - it's just a few clueless sociopaths with nothing better to do than throw heartless taunts at a person who, by all accounts, has done nothing to deserve them. Torrey Smith seems like a humble, well-mannered young man, an anomaly in today's NFL. He's probably the easiest Raven to root for (trust me, some ain't so easy!).

The Mrs. Welker situation is very different: She was a little too emotional, but she didn't write anything untrue about our man Ray (one of the aforementioned less-than-easy Ravens to root for). I would take the high road, myself, but if she wants to sling mud like that, it's her prerogative. The Torrey Smith stuff, though, is just plain cruel.

One of my teaching mantras is "You don't raise yourself up by knocking others down." Something makes people feel better about themselves by tormenting and insulting others.

I was at the Patriots -Oilers game in the 80s. Flutie vs. Moon. For some reason I was a fan of the Oilers and Moon and loved the battle between the two Qbs. Great win for Dougie Fresh. Great memory. Later I found it was also a memory for Moon. During the game he was showered with racial epithets. My wonderful experience was tainted by the baseness of others.

I've been a Pats fan forever...I know who Torrey Smith is...I could care less about taunting him or even acknowledging his existence...I was AT the game with plenty of Raven fans all around ....I BOOED Pollard...in fact, most of us around that section booed Pollard...BOOED....I stayed the entire game and did not hear ANY personal insults screamed out to the field...this is another hatred inspired hit piece by FESPN, the network that KNOWS how much we hate their very existence.

consider the source...

A number of Patriots fans tweeted some disparaging remarks to Torrey Smith about his late brother following the AFC Championship Game, according to the Ravens wide receiver. Tevin Smith, Torrey's younger brother, was killed in a motorcycle accident in September

I'm supposed to take whatever this freak says as gospel..?....and who actually has any proof it is in reality, "pats fans!!!"???? jeezus krist, this is so thin it's gauze...again, consider the idiot ESPN source and then consider the rampant imposterism that plagues Twitter....save your goddyamed outrage for those things that are tangible.

and just to further emphasize...I am a rabid NFL fan...I knew NOTHING about Smith and never heard the brother story but beyond that, I could care less. I care about the ongoing ESPN jihad aimed at the Patriots and ME and MINE who are Patriot fans...I have written, called blogged and e-mailed them for years and have seen NOTHING mentioned about how WE, the NEP hardcore fans , feel about the despicable, irresponsible and inane stories generated by this cesspool of hatred...maybe we should start twittering as other team fans and slur Patriots players and see if FESPN runs THAT story...I'd bet the house on NO.

oh for krist sakes...LOOK at this...just look....LOOK who the writer is for ESPN

Jamison Hensley

Hensley joined ESPN.com in 2011 after covering the Ravens for The Baltimore Sun for 11 years. A graduate of the University of Maryland, he lives in the Baltimore area with his wife and son.

good God...please...make it stop....

so...some guys on the internet (or girls..or maybe trained seals) made disparaging remarks about a player on a team that YOU have been a fan of and have covered since you got out of college...and you bring this to print nationally using as your evidence "twitter posts"...WTF kind of space alien, meatsack moron are YOU anyway?...yeah, OK "Jamison"

As long as their is twitter, you'll always see this kind of behavior with racist, insulting, demeaning and cruel comments. I'm sure it happens in every competitive sporting event. It would have been more responsible to show these tweets otherwise any player can say that they've received harsh tweets from opposing fan bases and we'd just have to take their word for it.

Anyways, I can care less about what people write on twitter. That's kind of the price you pay for being on social media to build your reputation and popularity.

You are mis-remembering.

A perusal through all of your posts finds no such response, unless you are referring to your '14-2, here we come' comment qualifying as an admission that you were wrong.
