Patriots fans taunted Torrey Smith about dead brother

I was at the game and there was a guy in my section yapping during the game... "Hey Torrey, I hear your brother knows how to ride a motorcycle" and other assorted nonsense. Told him to shut the eff up at least 3 or 4 times with other people in our section.

Classless...honestly thought our fan base would be better than that.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, to hear that their are jagoffs amongst the Patriots fanbase.

It sucks but it happens..in all sports and in all cities. In Yankee stadium they throw batteries at the opposing players. People get lubed up at sporting events, they get excited and say stupid things. In Oakland and San Francisco they beat people to death. It Atlanta someone got stabbed after the game. In comparison these taunts, whatever they were I didn't read the article, we're in poor taste but IMO not that big of a deal compared to what goes on every Sunday around the League.

It's thing's like this that screw up Karma for us.
But I, too, apologize to Torry Smith on behalf of the more reasonable fans of this team.

You stay classy new england

You mean like this:

Let us consider the source (a Buffalo fan, who apparently decided to visit for the first time in months for some schadenfreude), who forgot about his promise to return and admit his predictions were incorrect.

Kyle Williams is up there with Ngata as a top DT in the NFL, and Dareus is a rising star....

This is yet another example of K Williams being the most underrated player in the NFL

Even if the Pats' gameplan was to run (it won't be) I don't think they have any backs capable of testing the Bills D-Line.

The pats d-line won't be able to do much against the bills o-line. If I'm wrong about that I'll come on here and admit it.

I'm not going to defend the taunting.

That said, the network coverage of the brother having died during the first game, and all the drama that went along with it, all the "Torrey Smith is playing on a different level" nonsense, was over the top.

Not Smith's fault, but I can see how it would have set people off.

When you couple that with alcohol and the ass whipping the Pats were getting Sunday, well I can get how some people would lose it and say things they would rather have not said.

Again, not defending it in any way whatsoever (you just can't go there), but I don't know if it's quite as not understandable under the circumstances as some are suggesting.

I've never been more ashamed of being a Pats fan.

Idiots like this make a team look terrible, even if the team is not even associated with the fans. It's a shame, such a great organization as ours deserves better fans than these scumbags.

If that's true, I'd like to apologize to Mr. Smith on behalf of the fanbase to which I belong. They're bad apples, they really don't represent the majority of us, and we're sorry.

To those people who did it, stop watching sports. You don't deserve the privilege of the experience if you can't stay within even a mile of proper perspective.

Well Said. Agree 100%.

Someone was rude over the internet where hidden by internet anonymity?

Well, color me shocked!

I'd never say anything like this. And if I was in the same room as someone taunting someone else over a dead relative we'd have words.

But I guess I don't get all of the cloth rending about this because there's threads here, there's threads on reddit, there's a bunch of Pats fans apologizing on other team boards I read, etc.

Simply put there are *******s all over. If Tom Brady's child died I'm sure he'd get taunted for it too. By *******s.

Because people are *******s.

I don't feel that an ******* who happens to root for the same NFL team reflects on me any more than an ******* who happens to breathe the same air as me reflects on me.

This stupid assumption that somehow an idiot Jets fan reflects on all Jets fans or that a douchey Steeler fan giving death threats to Tommy Maddox makes all Steeler fans psychopath is one of the dumbest tropes of fanboards and I can't wait for it end someday.

Based on these kind of instances, I see where alot of people perceive the Patriot fans to be classless and arrogant. That makes me really sad , angry and frustrated but as they say perception is reality.

Brady said it the best.' we have spoilt the fans over the last decade'. It is true. We really shouldn't have this entitled attitude and utter disregard for the other 21 fan bases!! I wish these people would be held accountable for this crap.

Boston fans are dbags..we all know this..i am a dbag sometimes..just like NY fans

Didn't this happen after the regular season game as well? Some genius who actually lived/worked in the Baltimore area made similar taunts on twitter about Smith's brother?

I think, for any fanbase, the reaction of the majority of people would be surprise and disappointment that someone else is stupid and cruel enough enough to do something like that.

For a smaller percentage, it would serve as a deterrent from making a similar sort of mistake.

Unfortunately, for a small but persistent percentage, these kind of thoughtless, mean-spirited acts serve as a beacon for the next stupid thing they're going to do.

Considering everyone from every side talks a lot of trash I don't care and don't care to apologize for someone else.

Stupid taste but it is what it is.

The world is filled with idiots. This shouldn't surprise anyone. Pathetic.

Before leaving the stadium, I took a breather and convinced myself to say "enjoy the Superbowl" to any smack talking Ravens fans encountered on my way out.

It's not what I wanted to say or do... but honestly people, you have to %$@ing think once in a while. If you tweet stuff like this you are honestly either a) sociopathic or b) amazingly dumb.
IF, A, then get help, please.
If, B, then please use your head more often than never.

Regardless, don't act like a lowlife.

I would never say enjoy the SB to those trash talking fans..i just wouldn't say anything to them at all.

Utterly ashamed of these fans, but lets be real here. Every franchise has these fans. They aren't just exclusive to the Pats. Every fanbase has idiots. Smith needs to understand that just because there are selected few that are classless doesn't mean that the whole organization is.

If you put a microphone in front of every drunk guy at a football stadium you would hear a lot worse. It happens in every stadium every Sunday. Doesn't make it right but this occurrence shouldn't be so astonishing IMO
