J Jones will be 28/29 when this deal is up and can sign one more big deal. I think it is wise for him to stay in the Pats system, improve his technique/understanding, and, if he is the type that wants to set the market, he can do that with his next deal. Very safe and wise career decision by him IMO. And saves the Pats a little dough compared to other teams. Based on drafting a CB in the early rounds every year, and trying to sign CBs early, it appears that BB highly values the secondary. McCourty twins, Gilmore, Chung and Jackson are not leaving soon (maybe retiring or being suspended for cocaine use ), and Obi and Williams are up and coming. Since Webster did not pass through the waiver wire, Crossen and Dawson would not have made it through, so we got some low level picks for them. I assume we will draft a safety next year. Seems like the secondary is all set for awhile.
