The Patriots NEED to add an OT to the Roster before next weeks game against the Jets, IMHO. Cannon being dinged up leaves only Blaine Causell on the practice squad. To my knowledge, Mike Williams has not taken ANY snaps at OT with the Patriots in practice. And Barker was a disaster there.

With the addition of Hicks, Khyri Thornton is the candidate to be cut and re-signed to the practice squad.

I think that the Pats need to see who is out there for a swing tackle that they could get for the likes of Tavon Wilson. I like Wilson and he's a damn good special teamer, but the Pats seem to have found a gem in Brandon King so their depth is very good.

Unfortunately, Tom Ashworth and Brandon Gorin aren't walking through that door and OT became the Patriots biggest need with Cannon's injury..

It just might be. Wonder how serious Cannon's injured toe is?

Breaking: Solder Gone For Season. Will Have Surgery | New England Patriots Forums - PatsFans.com Patriots Fan Messageboard

Posted this in that thread:

Will Svitek, Gabe Carimi, Eben Britton are a few veteren FA names out there.

I'm thinking trade Dobson if anything for a serviceable body. Lafell seems to be chomping at the bit to return seeing how he's traveled with the team the last 2 road games.

Also I'd like to see what we have with Rashaan Melvin before we go trading picks or players for backfield help. We do have all those projected comp picks to consider if were willing to part with a conditional 7 or even a 5 (projected to have 3 untradeable 6th comps, don't think that cond. 6 from Hou will happen and we're on the hook for Bostic for a cond. 6 if he pans out)

Hindsight is 20/20 but it would've been nice to take a chance on La'el Collins in the draft. It seemed kind of obvious he was innocent by day 3 as more info came about.

I wonder if the Falcons hadn't signed Jake Long, if the Pats would bring him in.

Its a good thing the Pats have fans like us who can point out to them the need for adding offensive tackle talent after losing 2 LT's due to injuries. They also asked me to thank you all for pointing out that adding a tall long armed CB might be a good idea, since there are so many of those kinds of guys just wandering around. looking for teams

Seriously guys, BEFORE Solder got hurt the Patriots knew EXACTLY what veteran offensive tackles were available, what sort of condition they were in, what types of offensive line styles they were experienced in, what it would cost to bring them in, and had an assessment of what the chances of them succeeding here were.

Those evaluations only intensified after Nate went down. And the same goes for CB help, only doubled. Find the next Delvin Breaux is like finding buried Spanish treasure. Everybody is looking and its rarely found. Do you realize how incredibly lucky we were to find Malcolm Butler. There were a huge number of coincidences that had to occur that brought us a quality starting CB for the price of a phone call. Same thing for Breaux only rarer, because he also tall.

The 3 hardest things to find in professional football these days, 1. a truly great defensive lineman (ie AJ Watt) 2. A truly great CB over 6'1 (ie Patrick Patterson) 3. An elite QB and we haven't really found one of those since Brees and Rodgers came into bloom. There have been a few good ones or pretenders but even guys like Wilson, Dalton and Luck, who all have had some success haven't reached the level of "elite"

Think about all the QB's who have come into the league since and our youngest "elite" QB is 32 years old

Agreed. And, probably fourth on the list is an athletic left tackle, there aren't a bunch of them hanging around waiting for phone calls. There is a reason that Soldier and Cannon were two of the highest paid guys on the team.

I'm hoping that Fleming will step up a bit. Even though his primary role was taken over by Williams, I was still surprised when he was initially cut (because he played plenty of snaps last year) instead of someone like Andrews or Kline, but the reason subsequently became clear because both Andrews and Kline have played very well.

Huh? That makes no sense. Why we would we bring in Jake Long when we had Solder and Vollmer? Revisionist History happening in this thread.

I'm talking about right now. Not before the Solder injury.

Long could very well be unsigned right now if the Falcons didn't pick him up a couple weeks ago.
