That is not correct. You are confusing the Active/PUP with the Reserve/PUP. The Reserve/PUP is the designation give to players who can't return prior to week 6 of the league season. Active/PUP are players who may or may not be able to return prior to 8/31 based on whether or not they pass their physical.

Reserve/NFI is similar to Reserve/PUP except with the NFI the team is not required to pay the player's salary.

With Zuseviks on IR, I think that increases the likelihood that the Pats pick up an interior OL that is released from some other team.

The IR already included Elvis Fisher and Tyronne Green. Green seemed to be in line for an interior role, and when he went down Zuseviks seemed likely.

Also note the rush of interior OL spots that went high in the draft. That may force other interior OL down a rung on a number of teams come final cuts.

Not sure why people have it in their heads that the Pats only carry 8 OL. The Pats have typically carried 10 OL during the season and the rare occasions, 9.

A linebacker would never be allowed to wear 45 during the regular season. That was Bruschi's training camp number, too (back in 1996).

Since Zusevics was placed on Injured Reserve, the New England Patriots would not have a right tackle to "sacrifice" in the fourth preseason game.

My guess is that they're remembering the most current example of last year's 53 man roster when they kept 8 OL:

I think it all depends on the specific versatility of the players being able to play both inside and outside, but I would imagine that it'll be anywhere from 8 to 9 myself.

They only kept 8 last year, but that was due to having good versatility at both inside/outside positions.

The last time they had 9 or more OL on the start of September roster was 2009. It's been 8 every year since. So I'd suggest that 8 seems the most likely but I could see 7 at a pinch considering the versatility of Svitek, Cannon and Connolly. I would of course be betting on eight.
