Patriots announce cuts of Aiken/[edit] Brandon Jones/Koutivides, and other moves

So they have to remain on PUP at this point? They cannot be removed and placed on the 53 man roster prior to 8/31?

That is not correct. You are confusing the Active/PUP with the Reserve/PUP. The Reserve/PUP is the designation give to players who can't return prior to week 6 of the league season. Active/PUP are players who may or may not be able to return prior to 8/31 based on whether or not they pass their physical.

Reserve/NFI is similar to Reserve/PUP except with the NFI the team is not required to pay the player's salary.

With Zuseviks on IR, I think that increases the likelihood that the Pats pick up an interior OL that is released from some other team.

The IR already included Elvis Fisher and Tyronne Green. Green seemed to be in line for an interior role, and when he went down Zuseviks seemed likely.

Also note the rush of interior OL spots that went high in the draft. That may force other interior OL down a rung on a number of teams come final cuts.
.

Why would they be looking at INTERIOR O-line? Zusevics primary position was OT. The Pats have almost always carried 4 OT.

Not sure why people have it in their heads that the Pats only carry 8 OL. The Pats have typically carried 10 OL during the season and the rare occasions, 9.

I'm glad we have guys like you around here to keep all these technical details straight. It's absolutely diabolical how all this roster and salary cap stuff works. Ian, pay the man!

1) OT: Solder, Vollmer, Svitek, Cannon (3.5)
unless you don't think that Cannon is good enough to be the #4 OT.

2) C/G: Mankins, Wendell, Connolly, Cannon (3.5)
We are clearly one short, at least.

3) For me a C/OG would be sufficient, given the position flexibility of Connolly, Cannon and Svitek. That player could be Nick McDonald.

4) Please list the rosters for either the playoffs or the start of season showing with the "norm" of 10 OL's.

better not, I Just got his shirt the other day.

I hope you have better luck than I did last year. One day after I ordered Hightower 45, they changed his number to 54. I was able to put a stop on the order. It took about three weeks for me to get the revised number
(jersey made in China).

A linebacker would never be allowed to wear 45 during the regular season. That was Bruschi's training camp number, too (back in 1996).

Ha!...............

Don't stop at 8. There are a few people now that want the Pats to keep only SEVEN offensive linemen!

I'd also add an OLman like Brice Schwab to that list.
Since Zusevics was placed on Injured Reserve, the New England Patriots would not have a right tackle to "sacrifice" in the fourth preseason game.

Keeping 7 is completely insane.

They only kept 8 last year, but that was due to having good versatility at both inside/outside positions.

It's going to be 8 or even 9. That said, they may find it in their better interest to start shopping for another OL at the moment.

The last time they had 9 or more OL on the start of September roster was 2009. It's been 8 every year since. So I'd suggest that 8 seems the most likely but I could see 7 at a pinch considering the versatility of Svitek, Cannon and Connolly. I would of course be betting on eight.

Eight minimum on the 53 man roster with two on the practice squad.
