Patriots 2025 FA - Should they stay or should they go?

Use your money to buy offensive players in FA. I don't care if he have the worst D in the league next year if it means giving Maye the chance he needs to be successful next year. Clearly we need to draft better to make the most of the Maye rookie contract window, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't abuse the cap space a cheap but good QB gives you. Unfortunately next year won't be the year either as Maye will have to (hopefully) get use to navigating playing good Ds with good weapons.

So while this year sucked, the Pats have every chance to fix a lot of things in FA and the draft and make a quick turn around to being respectable, though being a true playoff threat will only happen the earliest in Maye's 3rd year, but i could see us being a playoff team next year in a 14 team format.

You and a lot of folks - I think participation here would probably fall off heavily.

I do think this topic would be fun to talk about though once the new org structure is determined, assuming it happens.

My participation here has dropped a lot already. I have literally nothing to say...

The following are RFA:
Lester Cotton
Christian Elliss

The following are ERFA:
Ben Brown
Alex Austin
Jeremiah Pharms
Demontray Jacobs
JaQuae Jackson

Of the ERFA, Brown, Austin and Pharms are no brainers.

I would give Elliss an extension. Don't screw around with the RFA tender.

Austin Hooper is the only UFA that I'd re-sign.

If they re-sign Ekuale, they should do it on a 1yr deal. But he's going to be 31, so it's not likely if Wolf sticks to his not signing players who are 30+.

There are a plethora of DE, DT, LB, CB and S out there.

DE: Need others besides White and Pharms.
DT: Ekuale was mediocre. They need another young stud. Especially with Barmore's career up in the air
LB: The Pats need better depth here. Losing Bentley left a huge hole that Tavai clearly couldn't fill.
CB: Jon Jones is toast. Marcus Jones is injury prone (3yrs/3 IRs). Neither Austin nor Bolden really stepped up to show they could be more than 4th/5th CBs. So the Pats needs that #2 to Gonzalez's #1. The Pats also need someone for the Slot because of Marcus Jones not being reliable, health wise.
S: Dugger regressed after his contract. Peppers may or may not be around. Hawkins is a jag. Pettus may turn out to be more than a special teams player, but we'll see.

Guys to look at in Free Agency: (will change between now and the start of free agency) (bold are my preferences)

DE: Chauncy Golston, Josh Sweat, Pat Jones,
DT: Bobby Brown III, Naquan Jones
S: Tre'von Moehrig
CB: Paulson Adebo, Byron Murphy, Kristian Fulton, Mike Hughes, Brandin Echols,
LB: Ernest Jones, Devin Bush, Zach Baun

OT: Cam Robinson, Josh Jones, Alaric Jackson ,
Jevon Holland: FS and will only be 25 next season. 6'1 205 and will help lock down the back-end of the defense for the next 5+Years (probably longer if not seriously injured during his contract).

Holland has issues covering people and missing tackles (12 on the season). We have enough of that on the team already. Pass.

I'm open to truly viable young alternatives. We NEED a True FS (and a solid young backup). As you know, the List of what we need is pretty much wide open.

I think the narrative of getting rid of 45 players is way off base. I understand why it’s there given the season they have had, but to start with the rookies need at least another year to find out if they can play. People can talk all they want about how much Wolf’s draft “ sucked” but the truth is that most players picked after Rd. 1 don’t make it all, and few start and really contribute their first season. The real goal for the next year or two should be to turn their rookies into starters or regular package players, and to turn most of their starters into their depth, until they can be replaced with younger better players.

I think it all depends on what the new coach wants to run.
Well now we know it’s Vrabel.

Can probably assume the defensive scheme should be similar although that’s not guaranteed.

No idea what the offensive scheme will be until they hire an OC. Maybe this coming week.

I am guessing Vrabel will try to acquire a few former Titans via free agency or trade to help establish his culture.

I don't expect the defensive scheme to be at all similar. Going forward I expect the scheme to evince a reasonable approximation of competence.
