Path cleared for Jimmy's return? [SF trades for #3 pick]

Or JG sucks this year and loses his job week 5 to Fields, or he get injured again ....in either scenario you get nothing for him next offseason. Seems like a overpay by SF for sure but a little bit less of an overpay if they end of trading him to a certain Northeast team for a mid-2nd.

That's the logical thinking path.

A $25M lame duck doesn't get them anywhere. The other variable is the no trade clause. How many teams are in play?
Depends on how they view their team this year. Think they can make a run? The motivation for Jimmy is to play well and try to win a Super Bowl. They're not going to ask him to teach the kid (I doubt Brady took an active role in Jimmy's development in NE).

Trading 3 1st rounders to draft a QB isn't exactly the formula for a team serious about making a run based on a lame duck $25M QB.

The Pats are in the driver's seat on this now. Just wait to see what SF does. No need to offer them anything. If they want to be rid of him this year, let them come to you, looking for something in return. If they want to keep him this year, then it isn't happening anyway.
Except that the alternative is that Cam is starting again this year.....

There’s no downside. In Jimmy you have a safety net as you develop a young guy. Now he’s in a prove it year so if he plays amazing you can get a haul for him or keep him and deal the rookie. If he sucks, who cares you just wait for the best deal from a desperate team
Wait, so you're giving up 9 places in the draft in Round 1, a 2022 and 2023 1st rounders and a 3rd rounder to get a pick that you think you'll trade next year after he rides the pine IF Jimmy plays really well?

SF fans would storm the field.

Phins just flipped that #12 pick to the Eagle for #6. wow, nice work by Miami

I certainly think it’s more likely we’ll end up with Cam plus a mid round QB this year than it was a half hour ago. as you say, the price will be high to go up and get a QB (and five will likely go top 10 now) so it’s a case of seeing if they can pry Jimmy G free or tread water for a year as far as QBs go.
I think the only interesting thing is if somehow Lance or Jones was the desire all along and it somehow went. 1. Lawrence, 2. Wilson, 3. Fields and now at 4 they were in reach

This is unbelievable. Let's evaluate:

In 2016, the Dolphins drafted Laremy Tunsil with the 13th pick in the 1st round. If you recall, his stock fell quite a bit on draft day when images were reveal of Tunsil in that gas mask bong thing. They traded him to Houston as part of a package. After factoring trades with GB, SF and Philly, here is the total:

Dolphins Lose:
Laremy Tunsil
Kenny Stills
2020 4th rounder
2021 4th rounder
2021 6th rounder
2022 1st rounder

Dolphins Gain:
2020 1st Rounder (#30 overall) - Noah Igbinoghene
2020 4th rounder (#136 overall) - They traded this to the Rams and I can't find what Miami got in return
2021 1st Rounder (#6 overall)
2021 2nd rounder (#36 overall)
2021 5th rounder (#156 overall)
2022 1st Rounder (from SF)
2022 3rd Rounder (from SF)
2023 1st Rounder (from SF)

Miami probably traded back to ensure they get Mac. The media was trying to link Mac to the Patriots, and Miami is incapable of original thought.

But they’ll probably have to give up something like the 49ers did to get there. Falcons sitting pretty right now.

If you aren't a Jimmy G believer (and I am not), this gives me a sinking feeling. Here are the possibilities I can see from here:

  1. We trade up into the top 5 to get whatever leftover QB nobody else felt was worth drafting to that point. Really no assurance of success with that approach. If we're giving up all that capital to pick that early, I want it to be the actual target. Luckily, I suspect that trade is only made if the actual target falls to a pick we can get.
  2. SF relents into trading us Jimmy G, probably for way more trade capital than I'd be comfortable with. He gives us an improvement over Cam, but is still just Kirk Cousins-tier, and gets hurt midseason and we end up with Cam anyway.
  3. We just end up with Cam again and maybe draft a game changing linebacker or WR round 1.

I don't know how I'd rank these scenarios, but I definitely like the Jimmy G one the least.
Either we give up too much for a rookie or we end up with a JG Cam combo. Not a great choice

Who cares? Why would you trade Jimmy for no reason when you need to develop a rookie. Jimmy’s stock is not high now. The only team I can see even giving value for him is us and that’s more sentimental drafting reasons because we have a staff that still loves him. But unless that deal wows you, that deal is there next year after you got to see your rookie unless something crazy happens like the Pats get a high draft pick next year and will be able to pick

They will, but if that’s the guy they wanted all along.... get him I guess. No guarantees next year

Jimmy G’s no trade clause is the key. He can basically be a **** and say nowhere besides the pats & their two TE middle of the field offense.
Plus his existing rapport with Bourne. It really would be a dream landing spot from Jimmy’s perspective, although I think porn stars are less likely to live in Foxboro than on the west coast.

That's why I'm thinking we might as well just say **** it, we whiffed on QB again this year, get an All Pro caliber player at another position who can mask how bad Cam is.

Don't trade anything for Jimmy, let them cut him.

Take a rookie QB instead or sign Jimmy when he's a free agent or both.
...then the NEP opens themselves up to a bidding war and with only $10m in cap space cannot dictate deal structure.

If you have the chance to do it, you do the deal.

Unfortunately, this team cant even suck competently

Love that Alec Baldwin scene. Classic!

I think the 9ers trade him to the Pats before the draft.
