Path cleared for Jimmy's return? [SF trades for #3 pick]

You add Jimmy G to this offense & a player at 15th overall to either unit they are competing for a sb.

The minute Jimmy G slips up, even for a moment, the clamour starts for the draftee. It’s really hard to carry two top QBs on a roster.

Normally, yes. But in this case all the cards are in the hands of the 9ers. Jimmy has to play hard to maximize his value. And if the pressure gets to him, so what?

Can a Jimmy G trade work financially without trading Gilmore (either to the 49ers or someone else)?

That's a good question. When the Pats went on their spree I thought that they would leave enough room to sign JG if he became available. I can't believe that they had given up hope on him and were set on Cam. Maybe they really like Jones, but somehow I doubt it.

Just reported by BR. Will post details when I see em.

*Fins get #12 and #102 this year. Along with 2022 1st rounder and 2023 1st rounder.

Let’s the craziness kickoff.
Awesome deal for the Dolphins. If the 49ers pick busts they’ll be swimming in riches.

Jimmy has missed 23 games to injury out of 48 games.

If anybody needed to be on TB12 its Jimmy.

There are rumours the 49ers want Minshew. I wonder if a 3 way deal could be made between us the Jags and Niners. Something like:

Pats send significant pick to Jags and Gilmore to the Niners (Cap space reasons)
Jags send Minshew to Niners
Niners send Jimmy G to us.

Just spitballing.
Minshew isn’t worth that to anyone. You are basically saying a mediocre lame duck who is more of a stopgap than a starter is worth one of the best CB’s in the league and a significant pick.

Of course they would say this

Sounds like posturing... If they want Lance they won’t want to start him right away, but they could also use the $24M in cap space a lot more. Maybe they’re waiting for Minshew to be available first.

But there’s still only about 11 mil free space now anyway isn’t there? Can a contract really be worked with him where he only accounts for something like 5 mil cap?
Sure. Tear up old deal, new deal 5 year, 125m.
- 20m signing bonus
- base salary 1m in 2021
- base salaries 26m thereafter
- cap charge 5m in 2021, then 30m per year thereafter
Not saying it’s a *good* option, just saying it could be done.

No, I’m saying Jimmy G might be worth that. 49ers are effectively just swapping Jimmy G For Minshew. We’re trading Gilmore and the pick for Jimmy G effectively.

Jimmy is erratic.

One great game and the next one he stinks. BB is bringing him back to prove that he was right.

Interesting comment.

Considering your non-existent past experience with being right, on anything; it's not clear what's the reference point on that statement.

But they've plenty of cap room. Keep him and start him this year. Trade him next year and go on a spree with the savings. Sounds like a pretty good plan to me.

Or JG sucks this year and loses his job week 5 to Fields, or he get injured again ....in either scenario you get nothing for him next offseason. Seems like a overpay by SF for sure but a little bit less of an overpay if they end of trading him to a certain Northeast team for a mid-2nd.

I can’t believe this is actually going to happen.
