Passing of the tourch.

You guys get so defensive about this topic and I have no idea why, I gave you your props for being a great team and having a great coaching staff. But no QB in the HISTORY of the NFL has done what he has and it was his rookie season. The numbers and eye test don't lie guys. The torch has been passed.

How do you not understand how pathetic it looks to say a torch was passed to a quarterback who lost the game and was 16 for 31 for 295 yards and a 73 QBR who took two horrible sacks that essentially cost his team the game?

We're not defensive, we're laughing at you.

Right and Alex Smith has humiliated him. So bad that there were talks that time had passed him by.

Tell you what... You think about how time has passed Tom Brady by and we'll think about the third straight Superbowl he'll be playing in. I would suggest you watch the Pro Bowl a few more times for something to do.

If Mahomes has another few seasons like this one, he may be passed the Peyton Manning “Best Regular Season QB” torch?

The truly great QBs deliver in the playoffs - and one QB stands alone when it comes to playoff performance. Mahomes is nowhere near that level yet, which is not surprising - but as you’re banging on about him having the best first season (as it were) ever, just contemplate this:

- Would Mahomes rather have the 50 TDs he threw or the SB ring Brady got in his first season as the starting QB?

The NFL is about winning, not stats - and Brady still does it better than everyone else.

this is what the OP's representation of passing the torch really means

The main reason you give the team and coaching staff props is because you think by doing that you prove it's not Brady, it's the system. Look it. Mahomes had a better regular season. Beyond that its Brady who is still here. You keep the eye test. We'll keep the only test that matters. Brady imposed his will on your team and its Brady carrying the torch.

If it was an individual sport of course he is a better player, I don't think anyone would argue with that but its not.

The only reason anyone would take Mahomes over Brady is the difference in age. There is no guarantee whatsoever that Mahomes will get better at the mental aspects of the game. Just assuming so is just setting yourself up for disappointment because historically speaking the odds are pretty slim. Even the "great Aaron Rodgers" never got there.

If I were a Chiefs fan I'd rather project based on Wilson or Rodgers instead of comparing him to vintage pocket passers like Brady. But then again you guys still think Kelce is a great TE so I guess you really don't understand much about positions anyway.

Sorry to hear about Alex Smith. It doesn't look like he's going to be able to play next season.

Mahomes actually has a chance to end up like Colin Kaepernick, only without a SB appearance.

Irrational Chiefs Fan we get it. Mahomes had a great season, nobody is denying that. Just give it a few more years before you start passing the torch.

You keep saying it was his rookie season. It is kind of sad how you are woefully unaware that this was, in fact, not his rookie season.

If I was a Chiefs fan I would be terrified that the window is already closing. They were 4-3 without Hunt, they have 1 more year left of Tyreek before he gets paid and only 2 more years left of Mahomes (and they are already talking about restructuring him after 2019 instead of waiting until 2020).

They better get ready to spend truckloads of $$ just for those 2 players. Good luck improving the defense when those 2 players, who currently take up $5 million in cap space, take up $50 million in cap space 2 years from now.

Their window to win by talent disparity because of disproportionate draft success is definitely closing. I think they can structure the contracts around Kelce's prime and keep Mahomes, Hill and Kelce together for another 2-3 years. But I doubt that they will have a better chance in those years than they had this year.
