Should Parcells have gotten in?

I’m surprised you didn’t like those teams as they were ahead of its time with the amount of swag on defense.
i loved the 90's Pats... Bought season tickets the day after they hired Parcells... Beldsoe is my favorite QB, Larry Whigham, my favorite player...

Amongst my friend group, the talk was us not being serious contenders, and it started halfway thru 1998... getting throttled by atlanta said a lot, and going 4-4 vs the division didn't help... were even worse in 1999 (2-6 vs the division)... defense played better though...

Carroll never really did anything to separate himself from the pack at the time... i dunno why, have never really bothered to try & parse that out... it was more about going to the games, and having fun, yelling screaming and the like than it was watching football like you were studying game film... But, after 99, i think we all knew whatever they were doing wasn't working, so letting Pete go wasn't a shocker... tbh I was not in favor of the Belichick hire when it was announced... boy, I got that one wrong, lol...

Bledsoe was the man. I had many players that were my favorites. Whigham is absolutely underrated. He made you want to watch special teams. Made plays as a nickel/dime player.

The Atlanta beatdown was a major shock. Nobody took the Falcons seriously until that day. The division was just really good that year. In fact, 4 out of the 5 teams made the playoffs. That 4-4 record could've easily been 2-6 in 1998 had it not been for Bledsoe's game winners against Miami and Buffalo. I didn't want to see it, but NE had teams passing them up.

Carroll always reminded me of the basketball coach in Teen Wolf with that gum chewing and the way he carried himself. He also made those funny faces when the game wasn't going his way.

After the embarrassing loss to the Jets on MNF in 1999, I knew it was over. They had too many flaws and now the Colts were among the best in the AFC that year. Although I liked Carroll, it was time for a reset. I loved the BB hire because of what he did in NY. Also, I wanted to poach guys away from the competition. But, I had a bad feeling Bill wasn't going to be there long after the 5-13 start from 2000-2001. I also didn't care for Brady when he was drafted or when he played as I was Bledsoe guy. It took me some time to move on.

Funny thing about the internet is that you see things, but then when you go back to find them it suddenly disappears like it ever happened. I remember seeing on youtube the Panthers warming up balls on the sidelines. This is the closest I could get.

It was put into effect for the 2004 season. Bruschi talked **** after the Pats beat them twice that year saying something like the rule changes didn't help them after the "idiot kicker" said the Pats were "ripe for the picking". Great rivalry that I miss.

It started with Carson Palmer, but I saw that coming a mile away after it happened to Brady. Injuries like that was bad for the game and made the season unwatchable. The league in 2008 was one of the worst seasons I've ever seen.

The other rules you listed has contributed to the game being ruined.
I remember that Warming the ball thing when it happened it was clear for the world to see and obviously is going to impact the pressure of the ball. Still a little different. But then it leads to the real hypocrisy which is they let QBs do all sorts of things to prepare the ball to their liking and Brady wanting to be sure his balls were how he liked it was no different than sanding off the dimples or soaking the balls to soften the leather or whatever else anyone else was doing.

Also you are correct the rule change was after the 03 season. I got confused because we beat the Colts 2 years in a row.

Whigham is absolutely underrated. He made you want to watch special teams.
Our seats were six rows from the field in Foxboro Stadium... Whigham used to come into the end zone when the play allowed and buzz the area... every one used to cheer him on, with a rousing chorus of "Larry! Larry!Larry!" or "Whigham! Whigham! Whigham!" it was pretty epic...

The one thing I didn’t like about Parcells. The moment things don’t go his ways, he leaves.
And he always found the best chance to turn things around for his next location, like he did with the 1-5 Jets and 2-14 Pats. He also took over Miami as a GM when they were at or near the bottom.

I usually don't hold grudges, but Parcells is one of those rare exceptions.
That's how it should be and is why 7 of 10 fans here don't like it and a few hate it.

I submit that Kraft is showing his pot'l HoF voters an example of what, "let bygones by bygones/time heals all wounds" means.

In addition, Parcells carries so much clout still with owners and sportswriters. I wouldn't be surprised if Parcells, to some effect publicly supported Kraft's HoF candidacy.
Aha! That must be it. That and the favorable trade to Jerry Jones may do the trick.

Aaah yes, how could I forget

Ill go with BBB for that then, ill let you figure out the other B

Great input Pape, thanks man. I can definitely understand your side then. grown-state hero, saving the club, makes sense why there is so much good will towards him by the local fans. Well worth a full 10 cents, friend

I do choose to close out my empathy altogether for him, however, because I AINT GIVE A ****. Sorry, not my state, not my country (Who can relate?), he might as well rot in hell the way i see him manage my club.

Edit

Parcells didn't save things here. The team looked just the same with him as before him. The difference is that none of the other HC's stabbed the team in the back.

I also get a charge out of the story about all the players he brought here. How can that be when his reason for backstabbing the Pats was that he didn't get to choose the players?

Bill Belichick is the HC most responsible for the Pats success as well as Tuna's. That's why Tuna tried to keep BB under his thumb. If we're going to give Parcells the credit for BB then we might as well give it to Ray Perkins. He hired BB before Parcells arrived in NY.

This move has me seriously considering dropping the NYFL after 65 years.

Thank you for the input, I appreciate it. And I liked hearing about your version of stuff as well, in this thread

Obviously I don't have the same history with our Pats as you. You are absolutely entitled to support the local hero turned billionaire who saved the team

as I am to despise a venomous incompetent snake
