What's with closing the game discussion thread for replies before there's even enough time to catch up with the last posts?

Mods are quick to discourage multiple threads on a topic, and combine extraneous posts, then do something like this that is completely opposite to those efforts.

Makes it seem this board is not really for the participants.

One thread is for in-game comments and the other is for post-game thoughts.

It's more about organizing than "heavy handed moderation"

How many open threads should there be on the same topic?
As a person who is asked to provide assistance/guidance/info on the Patriots salary cap I prefer having one open thread on the same subject (Revis extension, 2015 salary cap).

How old are you?

A simple email asking them to keep it open for 30 minutes after the game ends, to allow for post responses to play out, might work. Throwing rocks at them as if you have some kind of entitlement and they are abusing their power, pretty much won't, I'd guess.

When I read "heavy-handed moderation," I thought you were referring to banning posters or something.

This isn't heavy-handed at all. It's not like there's a rule prohibiting you from actually carrying over a comment from the game thread ("Before the game thread was locked, [person] posted . . .").

That couldn't be farther from the truth, and that's how we've always done things when it comes to game day discussions as the post game thread is the one that will be open for the rest of tomorrow and this week. The goal is to encourage different discussions and not have threads that focus on different angles get buried by multiple threads on the same topic.

We're pretty lenient here, and I think the longer you're here you'll realize that there are reasons behind how things are done, and the idea of closing the game thread and opening a post game thread was something I came up with a few years ago that we implemented that has worked pretty well.

Needless to say, moving forward if you have an issue with the moderation my inbox is open, or post it in the Help Forum and I'll be happy to answer it from there. However, for now, I will be closing this thread.
