Our OL sucks, and it has had a lot of injuries, and what we need is THREE OT's?

Yes our OL has sucked from Training Camp through the last game.

But, where are we going forward? Sign two OT's and draft one in the 2nd or 3rd, and a center in the 4th or 5th, and then where are we?

OT
We need THREE OT's to add to Wallace and perhaps Lowe.
That's a lot for one year, but we'll see. One top FA, one bridge FA and a 2nd or 3rd round draftee seems doable.
The current group is the worst in the NFL.

OC
Is this group really terrible? Perhaps not if Andrews is healthy, Jake or Brown is an OK backup, and we draft the OC of the future.
Or, perhaps Strange in the OC of the future.

OG
I don't think this group is terrible at all.
Onwenu, Robinson, Strange, Cotton, Robinson, Sow

I'll just say - every passing thought you have, doesn't deserve its own thread.

Yes it obviously sucks.

Yes it has a lot of injuries.

Yes less injuries obviously would have meant better play. If we had Strange and Andrews all year it wouldn't have been so bad. Not to mention injuries to Lowe and Wallace.

That said 3 tackles seems like overkill if we assume we get left tackle correct then that will go a long way to fixing the problem.

Then we are left with health questions on Strange which hopefully we can settle in the next month. Leaving a tough decision at center to rely on Andrews again or not.

Throw everything we can at LT and draft a center for the future and that should go a long way to fixing the line.

'Our OL sucks, or has it had a lot of injuries...'

Why the 'or' when both are true? Pretty sure that 'or' should be an 'and'

fair enough

I fixed the title.

You have simple solutions: ignore my threads and/or ignore my posts.

Some folks like having lots of relatively short threads. And yes, some are fine with random thought posts by many of our posters.

There are certainly posters that I look to whenever they open a thread, and I wish that they would start more threads.

Also, I like the disagreement that folks often have with my positions. IMO, that discussion is the very point of the board.

In my mind the interior is more of a problem than the tackles. There are several ifs here. If Strange can be an effective center. If Robinson can improve pass blocking, Onwenu needs to be better, maybe if we stop moving him around. Does management want to give their selections another year? Sow, Robinson, Wallace, Andrews, can they be even decent backups. I think they need to stop moving them from G to T or from side to side. Settle them at one spot and see what they can do. They have to stop the inside penetration.

I strongly disagree. We have no OT's, except perhaps Wallace.

I expect that we will indeed give the backups inside a year to develop (Robinson, Jake, Brown, Cotton and Sow). For 2025, I'm fine with Strange, Andrews and Onwenu.

BTW, we COULD be almost average with FA/draftee, Strange, Andrews, Onwenu and Wallace/FA plus the IOL backups and a late drafted center.

Why hasn't the 6'9 giant we signed from Green Bay Caleb Jones seen any action. He must suck worser than the other JAGs that he can't see the field.

They need to sign a starting lt to compete for the position and draft a lt to compete or develop.

That is all they need. Lowe and Wallace should provide enough coverage

Your right. Is why I think Dan Moore in Pittsburgh should be targeted in FA.. as well as bolles in Denver.

IMO, the OTs rostered today are adequate backup level tackles. The FO should be looking to spend on a veteran starting caliber LT in FA (Cam Robinson or G Bolles if not tagged). If that happens, draft another in rounds 2 or 3, maybe a swing tackle.

If there are no good options available in FA because top LTs have been tagged or re-signed, then maybe trade back in rounds 1, grab the best LT available and then another OT later on in the draft (rounds 4-6).

Agreed. I think bolles is a LT? Dan Moore, LT should also be targeted. I have no problem with Lowe being a backup where he's best suited.

At this point, it seems like the team will have draft capital and money to spend. I’d be willing to have them grab several FAs knowing they won’t all work out in the hope one or two of them have a bounce back (or injury free) season.

I’ve been wanting NE to draft OL since last season. Glad they chose Maye. But I’m once again advocating for significant ressources dedicated to the OL.

Sigh.... another thought, another thread...

I'm confident that the guy who said our OL was in good shape to start the season will evaluate the situation accurately and make good decisions going forward. He's also going to fix the WR group after picking two excellent rookies in the draft last year. We're in good hands.

Have you watched the OL play this year. It had been epically and historically bad. The interior has been just as bad as the Ts.
Andrews is likely to retire and if he doesn’t he should be replaced. None of thr Gs besides Onwenu have played at an NFL level even for a backup. Hell Jordan started ahead of all of them. Onwenu has been average at best.
Brien would be on a practice squad, never active, if we weren’t an nfl team.
It needs to be blown up.
We are stuck with Onwenu. If Strange can still play after the injury he should be in the mix. Everyone else should be replace with Wallace staying as a developmental guy who can maybe be the short yardage TE.
