BB has reputation as not being a players coaches and players do not speak glowingly of him. Crappy stadium. Cold climate. Popular UFA just said he would go anywhere EXCEPT NE. Matt Patricia is not loved by players. Brady years are over and they are in rebuilding mode.
THe one thing about bringing Cam back is that he is a popular guy amongst players and might help with recruiting UFA.
Feeling like NE is not exactly a preferred destination right now.

Could be a problem. Wish we had traded some assets. We might not win for a couple of years.

Marty Bennett, who was a handful, spoke glowingly of BB. So have others. Not every free agent vet is looking for a player-friendly paradise like Philadelphia.

Remember when BB signed Rodney Harrison? Tom wasn’t the GOAT and BB’s Pats had one winning season, and still signed Harrison.

Different vets are looking for different things, but the one thing they all agree on is they want money. So that’s why you offer them money and they make their decisions. Otherwise places with losing cultures would never sign anyone. But it doesn’t work like that in the real world.

players dont speak glowingly of him? Maybe...

In the past 20 years, how many guys left New England and out right trashed him?

He has a reputation as being a coach who preaches hard work and is tough on players, but is respectful of those players. He doesn't insult them for the sake of it, he uses it as a tool to make players work harder. But this year we also heard a lot of players talking about how much they appreciated his commitment to their safety, putting their health and well being above short football goals. On top of that, there are very, very few former players who have negative things to say about their time under Belichick, and those that do usually didn't work out or left due to a contract dispute.

Nothing is going to make players take significantly less money to sign somewhere (New England or otherwise), but the idea that suddenly no one wants to play here is a bit overblown. They'll miss out on older or injured players who are willing to take a one-year "prove it" deal to up their value or win a ring before they retire, but the free agents still in their prime were always going to cost market value. They did when Brady was here too.

Why did you feel this needed its own thread? Can’t we at least wait until FA actually starts before this is posted?

Guessing Stafford refusing New England had a lot to do with his arguments with Matt Patricia.

BB will get the FAs he wants. It's about $$$.

We choose to go to the Moon,” Kennedy said. “We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.”

They were talking about this on the radio the other day. Fauria said right now Jacksonville would be a more popular FA destination then New England.

The lure of winning SBs and playing with the GOAT are gone. We’ll have to pay top $ to attract FAs now.

So you think that Bill will pay more than others who have a better climate, better nightlife and better tax environments, and also better quarterbacks?

Players absolutely speak well of belichick. Where have you been?

Bruschi I doubted stafford would want to play here because he wouldn’t be interEstes in being “coached hard”, he’s more interested in being the man and cashing checks.

Story form a Detroit reporter was that shortly after arriving Patricia gave Stafford the Tom Brady treatment. That is, an expletive laced chewing out about a mistake he made in front of the team of the offense. Stafford hated it and I would guess he is not able to take that kind of coaching style.

THat's why I don't think Rodgers would work here either and it was silly to say things like RoDgErS WoUlD WiN TeN SuPeRBoWls WiTh BelchIcK

i think rodgers doesnt suffer fools gladly... probably had it up to his eyeballs with McCarthy and now LaFleur. He might chafe a bit now as a Free Agent acquisition, but would have done well with BB if he had started here early on in his career (and had success early on like Brady) ... dont think it would have lasted as long due to money though

What former players have spoken in that manner?

Crappy stadium.
Huh?

Cold climate.
Similar climate as half the NFL.

Popular UFA just said he would go anywhere EXCEPT NE.
One single player - that was not a free agent - said that.

Matt Patricia is not loved by players.

Plus Patricia is neither a coordinator nor position coach.

Brady years are over and they are in rebuilding mode.
Take a look at the free agent signings from one year ago. Nearly all signed with teams that missed the playoffs the previous season.

THe one thing about bringing Cam back is that he is a popular guy amongst players and might help with recruiting UFA.
Did that help Carolina sign free agents from 2011 to 2019?

Feeling like NE is not exactly a preferred destination right now.
Players and their agents follow the money. Yes, they will speak in oft-repeated clichés at their first press conference about how they always admired and respected (fill in name of player's new team here), but that is nothing more than PR for the fans and local media.
