Yes mayo did say this is where he and his staff were starting to put things together as far as play calling installations, position breakdowns.. so my hunch is Okorafor will be given first Crack? Until barmore puts him on his back enough times. ? Lol

I don't think Barmore is going to be lined up over the LT on an island very often. I could see Judon giving him some fits once he's back to full strength, or Keion White just on pure physical talent though.

Gonzo, Jonathan, And Marcus will be the best trio in the league this year…
I don’t know…I’m not sold on that. Jo. Jones is now 31 and I’d like to see Ma. Jones play a full season again to prove he’s not too small and injury prone. Jo. Jones is better on the inside. If he’s CB2 when the season starts…then we are too thin at CB. Marcus and Jonathan are redundant on the inside.
Good to see Mafi getting work at multiple positions as he'll be a key Game Day back up for us this year.
I’m hopeful Mafi will be a solid backup this season and perhaps a starter one day.
And Juju probably the only one justified in getting some level of crap you just tossed around but even he still deserves at least the benefit of seeing where his knees are at this summer.
Ive given up on Juju…but if he balls (no **** pic selfie pun intended) and looks like he can be a good WR2..do you keep him or trade him at that point. Is he a good locker room guy. Will his knee hold up.

Barmore said yesterday DC wants him to line up all over the front. He said he doesn't want him to just be in one place on the line as this will give him advantages against the linemen trying to put up blocking schemes.

Hadn't heard that! Makes sense, dude's a weapon.

Absolutely agree. Yes he was talking to the media yesterday! If u look at what KC does with Jones it would be the same thing with Barmore.. I've always felt Barmore could be a chris Jones type.. he's on his way..

I've said personally.. j. Jones/Marcus in the slot is best. Austin on the outside opposite Gonzo. Probably the best match up for us. Juju.. it's pretty much going to be on him to come to camp and prove he's healthy.. becuase he hasn't been he dealt with a hammy issue last season. I'd like Juju to be part of the WR room, but I'm not sure he'll make it through camp?

I still can't believe people actually took that and ran with it.. mayo said that jokingly... after all they did "burn some cash" though... Dugger, ownenu, beast-more...
It is not that people took it and ran with it.
After they let BB go. The fanbase was all excited that we would now be players in FA like other teams.
No more penny pinching. Mayo only strengthened those feelings when he made that statement.
If it was tongue in cheek then he has perception problems. Why do you think Stacey James was shocked.
I want Mayo to suceed. Don't want him to act like BB. But he needs to think before he speak's.
I am not a proponent of free yielding spending. You have to be smart.
But Mayo will learn that open mouth insert foot is a real thing

Couple of things:

Gonzo can be our match up guy with bigger more physical players. When we run into a team with 2 of these guys then Gonzo gets one and you give safety help to the other.

I get wanting to keep Jonathan in the slot I just think he's earned his spot as one of our top 2 corners over the past few seasons.

Also I think Marcus earned his role as our slot corner during his rookie year and looked pretty good last summer there too. It's a shame he got hurt. I'm expecting big things from him this year both at CB and STs. I've not been shy that he's a binky of mine.

I like Austin but I see him more as a depth player and not quite on the level of the Joneseses yet. But he can also be used as a match up guy and still not be a starter yet. But you seem pretty high on him and I respect that and he definitely still has room to develop as he's still young and raw.

Agree.

Few things to consider. J. Jones is 31, injury prone and played outside basically due to necessity last 2 seasons. He played well, but had his issues with the elite WRs. His skill set is better suited in the slot especially at his age. Marcus is the quickest guy on the team. We will play multiple DBs so he will be on the field in some capacity. Austin was a starter by seasons end Last year. He possess great instincts, Foot work, ball skills and he's physical. He will need to continue his growth and carve out a starting role ,becuase the RCB position opposite Gonzo is up for grabs. J. Jones has the inside track being a veteran and he's played it. But if we have out full compliment of guys I'm thinking mayo likes him inside. Marcus will return to all pro returner/slot CB. Guys just elite with his speed.

Oh I get it. I understand what you're saying. What I've been posting on this is. You had to personally listen to his interview with Greg hill. He was joking when he said it and everyone laughed along with him. The media took it and it grew legs.. the comments were really harmless.

I believe Stacey James has alot more to be shocked about than the HC making that statement wich he did back up, because they did something rarely done under Bill. Signed guys to 2nd contracts.

If anyone thinks mayos all bro hugs and but slaps they are wrong.. if you had the chance to view him mic'd up he is coaching up guys hard and telling them not to keep making mistakes. He will be more bill like than people understand. His personality is just different from Bill.

As we all came to realize the FA market wasn't as desirable this past off season. So it's best if the team looks competitive this season and Drake develops.

I don't disagree, but he is still a solid outside corner.
Without a doubt he is. I just believe we may have a better option on the roster in Austin. It will all depend on camp performances. You want big CBs on the outside. Imagine having 6'2 gonzo and 6'1 Austin on the outside locking up WRs..

I remember he was hurt in the 2017 playoff run another guy who could have helped vs Philly and he missed a large part of 2021. But I don't recall much else what would warrant an injury prone label? I'm sure he's dealt with other injuries too but I think he's been mostly available for 15+ games throughout most of his career.

Since 2019 j.jones has missed time with knee, chest, ankle and groin injuries. Tough injuries to deal with at his position. Guys tough though. So that is a 5 year scope of missed time with various injuries. All players deal with stuff, but as they say you have to play through it. In 2019 we had the DPOY at CB so j. Jones missing time wasn't as prevalent. Please don't feel I'm dumping on j. Jones. I love his game and his heart on the field. Just pointing out that 2 things that are never good with players age and injury.

If Zappe ends up QB2 then that means Drake isn't what we thought he was.. YIKES!
No, that is NOT what it means. It means the Patriots aren't insane and don't want to have the franchise QB seriously injured before the line and WR corps establish themselves. Or, it means they want to give Drake more time to absorb the offense and work on form and footwork before throwing him out there. Or, some of both.

I cannot understand at all where you are coming from, especially after watching Belichick ruin a young QB by throwing him out there with receivers who could not get open and a line that could not block. If the line and receivers look decent, you might see Drake at midseason.

Dont understand this take at all. So he thinks that they cut Milton before training camp? That makes no sense. If that is indeed the plan (which was quoted from Breer and not anyone on the team), then Zappe will be the odd one out.
Do you mean that Zappe gets cut too? Or that Zappe will be cut but not Milton?

Calm down there my friend. That was a comment on a post someone put up showing Zapp was #2. Relax... lol

This has to be expected, this is a top flight defense going against an offense trying to find an identity.

Don't be surprised when our offense struggles, every offense in the league will struggle against this D if healthy.
Thank you for pointing that out. The NFL needs to put some respect on this patriots D. Burrow will be check down Joe week 1.

Yes, and I am replying to your assertion that if Zappe is #2, something is wrong with Drake. That is exactly what my post addresses.

By saying "calm down", you are engaging in a logical fallacy, called the Tone Policing Fallacy. Instead of dealing with my argument, you are asserting that I have become emotional (and you are wrong, btw). I don't appreciate it. It's manipulative and underhanded. I've been nothing but polite to you. Deal with the arguments I am making, and don't worry about my emotional state.

I get not wanting to rush Maye. And if he's not ready then he's not ready. But Zappe and Jacoby aren't really stiff competition so yes if Maye doesn't beat one or both of these guys in camp then I will be mildly concerned. I won't make any big judgements but concern will creep up. And especially so if he hasn't passed one or both by mid-season.

Also your second paragraph is just garbage Mac did not get ruined by playing too soon or by the talent around. My opinion is he just didn't have what it takes he came in as advertised which was ready to play but clearly he had a low ceiling.
But putting my opinion aside playing too soon didn't break him if anything ruined him it was the multiple coaching changes at OC and specifically the one decision to go with Matty P that Mac fought basically right away that ruined him.
