OT: Tagovailoa Holding In (UPDATE 7/26: He’s been paid)

He’s one awkward or good shot to the head to an early retirement with his concussion history, no way I’d pay at or near the top of the market

I think the Dolphins will flame out again when November hits. McDaniel refuses to address their glaring weaknesses on offense. They also don't have a defense. And after what happened with Lawrence, there's no way the Dolphins can pay him. There going to have to let him walk.
Not disputing anything you said, but if you're the Dolphins' coach and GM and you let Tua walk, who do you have that can run your high wire offense? And if you don't have anyone when you let your QB walk, that usually leads to being fired. That's why I think they'll find the money for him.

The Fins are kind of stuck if Tua is willing to force the issue. On the one hand Tua is not a good long term investment due to health and mid level skills. The problem for Miami is that they have a roster full of skill players who have a limited shelf life. Trying to bring in a new QB now will mean that the team will miss their window with the current players.

Plus Hill will be asking for a new contract or extension next season in 2025.

His current contract expires after 2026, but that year was an intentional void year with a $44 million salary and $56 million cap hit when Hill is 32 years old.

Drafting an Alabama QB is like buying a crocheted prophylactic.

They bring nothing but misery.

Let’s say he has another season like he did statistically and Lawerence has another down year, are you paying him over $55M per year? I can’t justify paying him that amount unless they go deep in the playoffs which I don’t think will happen.

High flying teams that depend on ultra athletic playmakers usually get taken out by attrition. Whether it is injury or fatigue t doesn't take much to take away their advantage, especially against hungry teams in the playoffs.
The weather also takes them out. They a razzle dazzle offense that isn’t patient. They don’t have a TE or slot WR that can control the middle of the field and good teams will stifle their running game.

I feel like with Daniel Jones averaging $40 million, he deserves that or above:

Here are the average QB salaries:

But as you said, the question then is how much above that he's looking for.
One team paying stupid money to a player not worth it, sets the floor for future negotiations.

Too bad that overpays can’t be used to set a ceiling.

The horrible Lawerence contract has Dak eyeing $60M. Tua could command at least $55 with another season he just had.

Teams around the league are hoping Lawerence has a good season or else it’s going to open Pandora’s box.

It's the TV contracts. Those numbers are in line for QB numbers with what the cap is going to be for the next several years. And just wait until the NFL does new contracts. Midling QB numbers are going to explode.

The Dolphins have to pay Tua because without Tua they don't have anything.

What’s sad is the all time greats paving the way for these current players making chump change. Football was way more entertaining before the rule changes.

Yeah, I don't disagree with you. But Brady making $25 million a year is chump change now and the numbers are going to keep escalating. The untold story is that the networks and streamers are dying without sports content, so those contracts are going to go up so much in the next few years. NBA just negotiated for NFL money. So when the NFL negotiates next, the money is going to skyrocket.

He's definitely better than Daniel Jones. But I can't blame the Dolphins for not wanting to tie up long-term money to Tua, just in case. Seems like they could just do a short-term contract and kick the can down the road for two years.
WHy would he agree to that?

I'd give him his 50+....for maybe three years. Anything beyond that is wishful thinking with his injury history.

He got his contract. Just over $50MM aav
