The redline is where the joy lives my friend. The only point in an envelope having edges is for them to be explored, stretched... and occasionally pushed
Disagree. Peak power or torque is where joy lives. Or threshold braking while cornering.
There’s no feeling like getting pushed back into the seat when you pull the next gear and punch it, already doing triple digit speed.
That was probably fastest I’ve ever driven, lapping Charlotte in a Winston Cup car. Somewhere north of 160 peak, guesstimate. iirc lap averages were around 150 or so, with a bit of a lift in the corners. And the damned rev limiter kicking in before end of the straight.
I think the formula car I used to race topped out around 125, but it pulled 1.6+ lateral Gs when cornering. That was my idea of fun! Even if I did end up wondering why my arms were bruised the next day, until I remembered that was where I was leaning on the roll bar braces.
Fastest in street car on public highway, probably 140 or so, on the Autobanh in Bavaria.
Fastest in my own car, unsure. I did see 110 last week, albeit not for long. I surprised myself when maintaining my place in traffic flow approaching an interchange near home. Didn’t mean to do it, didn’t realize I was going that fast until I snuck a quick look at the gauges. My Benz still has legs!
