i love the van hagar f.u.c.k. album... probably my favorite of all the van halen releases...
Both eras although drastically different produced some great tunes. Its a shame that Roth is such a nut job.

The redline is where the joy lives my friend. The only point in an envelope having edges is for them to be explored, stretched... and occasionally pushed
Disagree. Peak power or torque is where joy lives. Or threshold braking while cornering.

There’s no feeling like getting pushed back into the seat when you pull the next gear and punch it, already doing triple digit speed.

That was probably fastest I’ve ever driven, lapping Charlotte in a Winston Cup car. Somewhere north of 160 peak, guesstimate. iirc lap averages were around 150 or so, with a bit of a lift in the corners. And the damned rev limiter kicking in before end of the straight.

I think the formula car I used to race topped out around 125, but it pulled 1.6+ lateral Gs when cornering. That was my idea of fun! Even if I did end up wondering why my arms were bruised the next day, until I remembered that was where I was leaning on the roll bar braces.

Fastest in street car on public highway, probably 140 or so, on the Autobanh in Bavaria.

Fastest in my own car, unsure. I did see 110 last week, albeit not for long. I surprised myself when maintaining my place in traffic flow approaching an interchange near home. Didn’t mean to do it, didn’t realize I was going that fast until I snuck a quick look at the gauges. My Benz still has legs!

Fastest on the highway I've gone in my current rig is 145, but I'd say I'm over 120 weekly. Try that back east...so little room...

I've had some wild times on the autobahn, and the other little gem is the Jebel Jais highway in the UAE. Ran that in an R8. Blew past a cop, and he couldn't have cared less....thankfully.

Ohhh, which Benz? My son is (currently) an AMG guy, though I'm in the process of converting him lol

My current guilty pleasure/unwind car is powered by a Yamaha V8, they have an uncommon performance profile. I understand it's not a common occurrence but for that engine peak performance and the redline pretty much live together. I live in the sticks now so it's pretty much all about the twisty which puts me in agreement on threshold braking. No place near here I'd feel okay about posting triple digits in the car.
A couple of spots for the bikes though so at least there's that

Going 100 on a bike seems nuts. Be safe.

Old. I picked up a 2011 E350 the week I retired, last week of December 2023. It was pictured next to the definition “cream puff”. It replaced an even older (2000) E320 after the passenger airbag sensor failed and cost to repair was too much to invest with over 250k miles on it. Compression was down and passing inspection impossible without huge expense.

If my AI startup scores I may go the other way. I was looking at a nice AMG when I was in California but have trouble justifying a price tag exceeding my annual income. So for now my sweet spot is off lease cream puffs. Let somebody else break them in and eat the initial depreciation then I get to put a couple of hundred thousand on the odometer. Wash rinse repeat.

I don't think i've ever gone over 95mph.

One slight issue and it simply over at high rates of speed. Found a motor cycle once in the ditch smashed up near a field, didn't see the driver but saw his helmet about 50 yards away and inside the helmet was his head.

Except for being geared up on the track I suspect going down at 70 isn't all much more survivable than going down at 100.
In 50+ years of riding I've had one serious accident, it was pretty ugly and I'm fortunate to have survived. I was t-boned while going less than 25 mph when an elderly woman confused the gas and brake backing out of a blind dtiveway.

@Pape I was skeptical when VH announced Sammy as the new front man in 85 but they sounded awesome together. I love the Roth era as well as the Hagar and to me they are two very different versions of the band. Loved Diver Down, Women and Children First and 1984 has the most iconic VH songs written. However, 5150 with Hagar is an album you can just push play and let it go, every song on the album is a banger.

Would have to agree with both of you. 5150 remains one of my favorite songs from that album (Joe Satriani said it's been the toughest one to play during Hagar's recent tour), which was just great from start to finish. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge was also terrific, with Pleasure Dome probably being the one song that I felt like just went on forever, albeit Eddie's riffs in that song still make it one I like listening to.

It's also funny that listening back, the riff in Top of the World is also played toward the end of "Jump," which is kind of cool. But I liked all of those records. It's just too bad they broke up after Balance. Still had plenty of miles left if they could have just figured it out.

I could watch Live Without a Net forever and never get tired of it.

And watching old concert footage of them from back in the day with Roth on YouTube is also a fun pastime. It's just unfortunate you really don't see many rock bands coming up in this era of music. The 80s/90s were unreal. And obviously, the '60s/'70s were pretty great also.

Pretty smart, especially if you turn your own wrenches. I'm a BMW guy, myself, so knowing how to turn wrenches on older cars is essential lol. I've got a newer one now. It's nice. But I miss the stick.

Out here in AZ, though, you can score some gorgeous E46 M3s for under $20k. One of them is calling my name...

I think a lot of us have hit triple digits on open roads, as well as other stupid ****.

That was a reckless part of my life, and now I'm grown and at 44 I drive like a grandpa.... 20 years away from retirement.

Hopefully Shedeur can realize that he is under a much bigger spotlight and has to grow up a lot quicker. The reward is that he has a chance to retire in his mid thirties and live life however he wants with good health for 30+ years.

I've done that more times than I care to remember on the bikes I've owned over the years. My wife eventually forced me to get rid of them all.

It may seem counterintuitive but the highway is literally one of the safest place to ride a bike. Only about 10-15% of all bike crashes happen on the freeway. I always rode in the left-most lane, never the right-most lane where all traffic merge happens.

There's a reason motorcycle insurance doesn't have personal injury protection coverage.

Was stuck in bumper to bumper LA traffic one evening and a big, no helmet guy on a bike was moving through the heavy traffic at a clip. Soon we saw him a couple hundred feet ahead flying through the air going towards our right. Much, much later we got a look of him up against a chain link fence. All alone. Waiting on the coroner, no doubt. Passersby slowly, I mean snails pace, going past, getting a good look in silence.
