OT: Russell Wilson & Seahawks relationship deteriorating

Seattle is not trading Wilson, it would be a $39 million dollar cap hit, all of which would be dead money!

Right now he has a $32 million dollar cap hit, and he is still owed (after this year) another $26 million in signing bonus money. So trading him would be crippling to the team both on the field, but also finanically.

Wilson is 33 now, Seattle has him under contract until 2024, his 2021 $19 million base salary became fully guarenteed on 2/12/2021 (funny how Wilson's unhappyness only started to come out AFTER that date). He is still getting paid big time money over the life of his contract.

So Wilson will be 36 when this current contract expires. He can whine all he wants, he is not going anywhere.

You would if he was suddenly in a Pats uniform!

Yeah, he does come off as a douche most of the time, maybe he just needs a change of scenery.

Rodger's advantage would be he would want to prove that being 1-5 in NFCCG's is more a function of coaching vs his play.

Playing for the GOAT coach would end that excuse.

A post June trade gives him a CAP hit of $32M with $13M dead money/ $19M savings

I believe that would make 2022 $26M dead vs $24M savings. Then a savings of $27M in 2023.

How many 1st rounders will tell how crippling because they aren't real contenders now.

Wilson is in the same tier as Mahomes and Rodgers. In fact, Wilson has played well in 2 super bowls, which is more than what Mahomes did.
Wilson is a diva and he should be holding himself accountable. Every QB now (Wilson, Watson) thinks they can dictate how the ship are going to be managed? Brady shut his mouth up for 20 years and did not demand ****.

Now, for me personally, I cannot stand this kind of crap. Do you want to be traded? **** you. You signed a contract. I do not pay you to be happy, I pay you to throw a football.

And let's be honest: the guy is making like 40 mi and is not top tier.
Does he want to be like Brady? So do not demand 40 mi from your organization and crap the salary cap buddy.

According to overthecap.com, trading him with a post-June1 designation would result in 3 years of dead money at $13 Million per year:

2021 33$19,000,000$13,000,000$0$19,000,000$32,000,00017.7%$13,000,000$19,000,000

So a team trading for him would be on the hook for $19 Million in 2021, $24 Million in 2022 & $27 Million in 2023. Not too bad if he can deliver.

I thought the future years go into the next year. However, you may be correct.

Quoting myself to say... I did not realize that Wilson was that old! :)

Spending $27 Million for a 35 year old Russell Wilson might not work like it did with a 35-year old Tom Brady. Not every QB can be like TB12.

I thought the future years go into the next year. However, you may be correct.

No you are correct, OTC shows you the different totals for the different years, but if you go to the team page and hit the calculate button, it will show you that that trading Wilson this year adds 7 million to their cap and put his cap number at $39 million for 2021.

Anyway you look at it the Seahawks are on the hook (salary cap wise, they have already paid him the money) for 39 Million left in signing bonus cap hits for payments to Wilson, the reason the after June 1 designation looks more palatable, is it spreads it out over two years instead of one.

So if you did trade for Wilson his 2021 pay would be quite managable for the team his is traded to, just $19 million (all gauranteed).

$24 million in 2022, $27 million in 2023. He has a $5 million dollar roster bonus due the 5th day of the league year in both 2022 and 2023.

So Seattle would end up paying him over $73 million in bonus money alone only to have him play for them for 2 of the five years and take a $39 million dollar cap hit in 2021. That is not happening.

After all the talk of QBs being on the move to greener pastures, I decided to see how many truly good landing spots I could find. The answer is, not many. Indy was good but they already made their move. Same for the Rams which was a PRIME location. And other ideal locations already have a QB and aren't looking to move on from them (KC/TB/CLV/LAC/ect)

#1 SF - Probably the prime spot right now. They have a solid OL (though they need to do something about LT if they let Trent Williams walk). They have a little cap space and some good offensive talent to build off of. Not to mention a D that should be good next year assuming they are healthier than last year. Truly a team that is just a QB away.
#2 DAL - They have everything a QB could want on offense to put up numbers. But their defense, management and lack of diversity in their attack could be a big problem in making a run. They are in good cap shape and have a good OL.
#3 WAS - The things that make this place attractive are the solid young D. Their OL (assuming they do something about Scherff's likely departure) is good and they've got cap space. They are at 42M with a lot of peices in place. If they cut Alex Smith that would be 15M more. They lack weapons but they have 1 young good WR on the ceap and if they decide to make a splash they could quickly bring in more. A sneaky good spot.
#4 CLV - IF (a big IF) you could convince them to move on from Baker they would be a good destination. Again, a bad defense, but they have the OL, the run game and good enough pass catching options.

These are the only spots that really stuck out to me. I took cap space into account as well, as lot of other decent spots simply couldn't afford a big QB contract most likely without massive cuts. If I was a QB these would be the spots I would look to try to hop to. I doubt CLV will want to move on from Baker, but for the right contract you never know.

Do you realize that Tampa had the worst winning percentage of any team in NFL history prior to Brady coming? They were called the Suckaneers for a reason.
They still do have the worst winning % in NYFL history and even Brady can't change that.

We all gonna ignore that this is the second high profile QB who allegedly has Jets on his list but not the Pats?
Where did the NYJ come from? I saw Dallas, NO (a great choice), LV and Chicago.
