Many of you knew that already. But the most obvious evidence is this:

We're talking about a head coach in the National Football League not knowing how games end in ties. And it just happened the week prior, he acknowledges seeing it, and still doesn't know how it happens.

Some of you haters pick on BB for this draft bust or that bad trade or this bad play call. You have no idea how the other side lives.

Part of me doesn't like that there's ties, but I think having ties (reg. season, obvi) is a better solution than a hockey shootout, FG kick-off, the college system, other ideas bandied about, etc. I hope the fact that we've had two ties this season doesn't mean the league over-corrects into some stupid system like that.

"How the heck did they tie?"...

After 5 quarters of football neither team scored more than the other

How could anyone not know this? Do they they think the "t" column in the standings is there for fun?

Personally I like ties, because they happen seldom enough that it is exciting when it does. Imagine how much less interesting the AZ-Sea game last week would have been if it had ended as a 9-6 or 6-3 W for one team or the other.

It also seems like a fair result when the teams are tied after 5 quarters of play.

It usually takes a very unusual missed FG for a game to end in a tie. In the past 2 weeks there have been.. ahem 3. I think the rules are fine.

What's far more pathetic is that this keeps repeating itself:

Reid defends McNabb's lack of knowledge over ties

And people wonder why BB has been so dominant for so long.

Not sure why people hate ties. They have FIVE quarters to man up and win a fricken game. Those two easy missed FGs to me proved neither team deserved to win that ****.
I think you identified for me my problem with ties/OT. I think they should just call it a tie at the end of regulation. They have 60 minutes to man up and win the game. If they don't...tie.

I'm fine with "Next point wins". It's how most of us solve these issues. "Next point wins after we basically cut half of the overtime off because everyone needs to get a chance", on the other hand, sucks donkey balls.

I think I can agree with OT. Depends on the person of course, but if your team can't win after 4-5 quarters I doubt they deserved the W. What do they need? Two games worth of NFL to decide a winner!?

Embarrassing, if he actually is telling the truth.

I guess at least when OT rules were sudden death coaches couldn't overthink themselves into kicking off in OT after winning the toss.

When D. McNabb said this exact same thing, everyone was shocked at how stupid he was. Players play and might not know every rule. For a coach not to know, that is just bad. How do you teach situational football if you don't know the situation?

I don't think Gruden meant that he didn't know it was technically possible to tie, but he was exaggerating about how improbable it is.

This was how I read it. But who knows, there are a lot of morons out there who are incompetent at their job.

In Goondell's parity utopia, every game would end in a tie.

New way is far better, did you really enjoy seeing teams get to the 15 and kicking a field goal?
