OT: Rams Frustrated with Stafford

No risk it, no biscuit.

I say this a lot when I'm playing pool and try a real tricky shot. I usually end up scratching or prematurely sinking the 8-ball.

But that's not saying you're wrong! It takes both: No risk-it, no biscuit, but also no restraint, more complaints. The trick is to have a system that provides a consistent floor, and taking a few wild swings now and again when you're in striking distance of being a contender. Obviously much easier said than done though.

The Rams are kind of an anomaly though, in that they went BUCK WILD and got their ring. They're paying for it now, but they fared better than most teams that completely sell the farm.

Hopefully they decide to blow it up and have a fire sale of trades.

Stanford helped them win their first Super Bowl since 1999, yet they ask Stanford to reduce his salary?

huh... and here i was thinking the cap is crap...

guess not
As someone here noted, with a couple of minor exceptions, if you pay a player a dollar, it will hit the salary cap. It's only a question of what season. That latter question is what leads to the "cap is crap" mindset, but you need players willing to sign those contracts to do it.

I have never witnessed a QB and his family celebrated as much as Stafford was. He should get the payday he so deserves.

If Tampa's defensive secondary didn't suck donkey balls, Jim Stafford wouldn't have won the One And Only ring he has now.

The dude is Ridiculously overrated...LA would be wise to dump him before he quits as soon as it becomes financially palatable.

How the hell did Jamel Dean get paid so much money?

For all y'all that wanna spend spend spend, this is exhibit A of what could go wrong.

I’d love to see him and his agent come back with a Bobby Bonilla type contract. To this day, one of my all time favorites. Every July 1st since 2011 until 2035 this guy gets a 1.19 million dollar check from the Mets. Just for 5.9 million buyout of his contract in 2000.

That was the coordinator telling them to press cover when they should have dropped back into prevent.

They tried, nobody wants to eat that contract.

It amazes me that after his Rams contract is up, he will have made $422 Million - the most of any player in NFL history.

Thats disgusting

They did. They traded Jalen Ramsey, Allen Robinson, Leonard Floyd, they cut Bobby Wagner and let all of their free agents walk. They tried to unload Stafford but he's old, expensive and their paper thin offensive line let him get beat to hell last season.

The next time someone is suggesting the Patriots are cheap and wonder why they are on average the lowest in cash spending this is why. The team's goal is to be competitive every season, not have peaks and valleys where they win 4-7 games for two or three years in a row while they clear their cap debt. See 2000-2019 for an example.

Patriots haven’t been competitive in years now. Not saying they should splurge every year, but something needs to change.

The Rams collapse is no surprise for most, many here were saying 2 years ago how it would all implode with the way they were managing their roster to buy a Superbowl

It worked, they got their SB, but they won't get close again for a long, long time because their cap is so hosed

salary cap is a real thing, regardless of what Felger belches into a microphone

They were competitive in 2021 even though it died with a whimper. They could have been competitive last year but hired Bozo the clown as offensive coordinator.

They’re doing things the way they’re supposed to. Things changed after 2019.

You can’t buy a team, you need to rebuild a team. The only way to get superstar players on affordable contracts is to draft and develop them. Then mix them in with some value vet free agents… at least if you want to build a sustainable winner.

Many Pat’s fans have been patient, and that’s what it took… patience.

They would have collapsed a lot sooner but they got other franchises to eat the contracts for Todd Gurley and Jared Goff. They had to pay for their mistakes by traded draft picks and eating dead cap. This was a long time coming.

The funniest part was the “cap is crap” crowd telling us as late as last offseason that the Ram’s method was the new model and the Patriots had to catch up with the rest of the league. Their GM even came out and said they didn’t like first round picks or some BS… lol, sure… why would anyone like those. You don’t have them because you screwed up… not some grand plan.
