OT: Raiders WR Henry Ruggs fatal suspected DUI crash; (update: Desean Jackson to replace him on Raiders…lol)

This happened to Stallworth.... dui/manslaughter... got a cake 30 days in jail etc... he settled witht he family of the guy he ran over...

suspended for a season by the NFL, play2d two more full seasons in the NFL, and finished his career, returning to the Pats for a partial season
More on Stallworth here. He got 30 days in part because the guy ran into the street. I'm not sure he could've avoided hitting the victim even if he were sober.

Leonard Little too....

Not sure Ruggs is done with the NFL. He remained at the scene and apparently took a sobriety test. Cooperation with the authorities goes a long way....

Unreal how the bar is so ****ing low. People try to find every imaginable angle for celebrities and athletes.

He killed someone. But hey, he took a DUI test rather than refusing to. He could have immediately jumped in someone else’s car and killed 8 more people, but he’s a good dude. Meanwhile, not sure if the victim died on impact or slowly burned alive being trapped in a mangled car.

Fact is, the way we look at things is ass backwards. He should have a higher standard and not a lower standard, considering all the privleges he has. The NFL provides a goddamned service for transportation. This guy has all the resources to avoid something like this. And yet, society will always try their best to mitigate transgressions by pointing out that because he’s valued by others, he deserves less punishment than the next guy.

It shows remorse, which matters in terms of sentencing. It shouldn't absolve him of responsibility, but it should count for something.

That said, apparently he didn't learn from Mac's mistake.

Amazingly Little got 4 years probation and an 8 game suspension..... and went on to have a 11 year career

The next guy to kill someone in a car was Dante Stallworth. He also go a month in jail settled with the family, and then really got hammered by Goodell. He doubled the suspension of Little and gave him a year off.

All the anger aside, it is tragic for the family of the dead guy, and also for Ruggs. Times are different now and his punishment by the league is likely to be as well, let alone the state of Nevada. One incredibly stupid mistake and his storybook life is over. When will they learn to simply take a damned UBER, they can afford it. Just have to shake your head -

Just read about his release.

The Raider have more information about the actual circumstances of this incident than the media. Releasing him so fast tells me that it must be really bad for Ruggs.

I also have to wonder how soon the WR mafia will start a thread begging to sign him.

I get that angle, but I also get the angle that these guys are < 25 years old with way too much fame and money for some to handle. I don't know. At the end of the day it is an irresponsible failure on Ruggs' part and any friends he might have been with to ensure that nobody drives in this condition. Sad.

Was just pointing out that staying at the scene is probably the difference between a 2 year and a 20 year prison sentence. Vick served time and still found his way back to the league.

Not absolving Ruggs of anything. He F'd up and the woman's family has to live without her forever.

BTW, also read that Ruggs' gf was seriously injured.

Sad situation that could have entirely been avoided by an Uber.

Ruggs is an ideal fit for the Chiefs in every way.

He’ll probably be back if he only goes to jail for a few years…NFL should ban him permanently.

The only thing he has going for him is he stayed on the scene. He’s doing 2-5 and he is going to be the 2nd athlete since Plaxico to do time for his crime where the entitled athlete doesn’t walk free. Destroyed himself and so many others who are going to be affected by her loss forever. This is the worst possible outcome for people that make the choice to drive while intoxicated. Many make it home fine without a scratch and are just lucky. Look back and say that was stupid, I could of killed someone. Sadly that reflection is how many young people learn not to do it again. This is why you dont do it. The worst nightmare scenario. A friend, uber, lyft. So many options out there now to avoid this.

ONE HUNDRED PERCENT.

(Very very bad outlook for this guy if the Raiders gave up on him so early... they must know what's about to happen...)

Rav4's are unstable. I got flipped over in one of those once by a guy ignoring a stop sign and smashing into my rear wheel as I crossed. Next thing I know the pavement is up close and personal to my door window and my face. A second later I'm upside down watching and hearing the roof sinking its way in as I wondered if it was just gonna flatten me. When everything stopped I was still upside down but amazed at how unscathed and clean I was. Then the good folks who came to my aid were like "he's alive!" and unhooked my seatbelt, whence I immediately fell headfirst on the roof, and then dragged me through broken glass until I emerged the very image of someone who'd just cheated death.

To me Leonard Little will always be one of the biggest pieces of crap to ever play in the league. Killed a woman who was driving to pick up her son from a concert and he was over twice the legal limit to drive. He allegedly said something along the lines of "That b*tch wrecked my car" and according to the family never even apologized. On top of that he got another DUI a few years later and basically got off with another slap on the wrist.

Oxygen thief.

Police report

Somehow this is even worse than it was before. Being trapped in a car that’s on fire. God

Crazy thing is, when he scores a TD, he flashes 3 fingers to signify #3, who was his best friend and wore #3. His best friend died in a car accident.

I never understood how something like this could happen. These football players have millions, if you’re hammered, get a cab, call an Uber. What a horrendous story. Mindless, selfish move on his part. My thoughts go out to the family of the person who died.
I understand how this happens. Pretty much every person who can afford to pay what a bar charges these days can afford an Uber home. Yet they just wanna go home, they don't want to launch the app and wait for the Uber. Their car is right outside, they just wanna go, they don't want to deal with the hassle of coming back and picking up the car the next day, they ain't got time for that. Oh, and yeah, drinking impairs judgement, regardless of how many millions they have.

Society as a whole doesn't have a good answer for this. Bars have parking lots. A large percentage who drive away from the bar are going to be above the legal limit. The best socially acceptable solution we have is to try to educate people, but that fails tremendously often, like this case shows.

We as a society have decided we value our ability to go out and drink so much that occasional collateral damage like the death of innocent victims is an acceptable penalty.

You say "look, this guy is gonna serve 2-20 years" and I say "that ain't gonna replace the dead lady".

Nevada law says 2-20 years for DUI with associated death, no chance for parole. I suppose a plea bargain may result in reduced charges, time will tell. I wouldn't want to be the prosecutor in this case. They'll face all kinds of pressure to let the dude skate.

Ruggs is an ideal fit for the Chiefs in every way.
Too soon.
