OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Rams w/ Von + Odell - Woods > Rams at the beginning of the year

No. But hey, what can they do? They’re better off now than they would have been if they’d done nothing. I love their aggressiveness. But they are not better off now; Woods is an outstanding player. Miller and OBJ are basically finishers if everyone else sets the table for them.

Which would be a better matchup for the Bucs? Rematch against the Rams in LA or against the Cards in Arizona? I think the Cards.
Rams match up well against the Bucs.

Since Bucs are the top team against the run, I believe they have an advantage against running QBs as it forces them to pass more than they want to. So I'd prefer the Cards.

Bingo. Exactly this.

The more mobile the QB, the better the Bucs are. In addition, the Rams run that zone blocking scheme, so it tends to have running backs sweeping to the outside, whereas the Bucs are so stout against the run between the tackles. Then just add in that the Rams are freaking good. Excellent secondary, Donald being Donald, and this is their worst matchup. Prescott is also excellent at hanging in the pocket, as we saw in week 1. Cowboys are a tough matchup for them too.

Bucs should be hoping for Murray and Rodgers, though both of them, while they create space, aren’t extremely mobile guys like we saw with Fields and Hurts. But I do think they’ll struggle to stay in the pocket. If they made the SB, they’d annihilate the Ravens, and I think they’d crush the Bills too. Both of those teams rely too much on scrambling, especially the Ravens.

This ^

There have been 4-5 recent games where I’ve started bracing for that yellow flag indicator on TV, after almost every big play by the team that appears to be getting screwed.

Recent games: Bucs-Saints, Bears-Steelers, Dolphins-Ravens. Just horrendously bad…the games actually do seem fixed, and I rarely suggest something so extreme. Florio is still blogging about the Bears-Steelers game and all the inconsistent, impossible to miss bad calls that only favored the Steelers.
Some games are almost scripted like the WWE. Ref errors and bias are actually getting worse then better. The NFL can do things to make it better but they don't want to.

They already have unsportsmanlike conduct, so why is taunting rule needed other than another tool to enfluence a game.

Every time a QB is sacked or touched there is a risk that a bad penalty will be called more than ever. It isn't evenly or consistently applied.

The Rams are indeed the Bucs worst matchup and the Cardinals are the Rams worst matchup! It would be interesting to see what will happen if the Cowboys and Rams both at full strength played each other in playoffs! That would be a very intriguing matchup!

he Rams are indeed the Bucs worst matchup
I'm not sure where people are getting that notion from. It's certainly not from what's been the play on the field.

Anyone who thinks OBJ is better than Woods, especially in the McVay system, is on crack. And now probably forced to be the #2 guy after assuming he’d be a #3 option might continue to expose OBJ of being a rookie contract wonder.

I think if you told any Rams fan at the beginning of the year that they would "trade" Woods for Von Miller and OBJ, they would take it. For certain, Woods at this point is more impactful than Miller or OBJ, but you are adding a 9-10 sack player in Miller and a 500 yard receiver in OBJ. You are sacrificing some offense for some defense and that is not a bad thing in the offense heavy NFC.

If Miller or OBJ can stay on the field.

There have been many atrocious calls for roughing the passer.

#Bucs inactives: TE Rob Gronkowski, WR Antonio Brown, QB Kyle Trask, OL Nick Leverett, S Andrew Adams, DL Steve McLendon. Sean Murphy-Bunting and Scotty Miller on on injured reserve. WR Chris Godwin will play as reported.

Richard Sherman and Dee Delaney are both active and will play today -- neither played in the Saints game, so a plus for Bucs' corner depth today. They have Dean, Sherman, Delaney, ****rell, Desir available.

If you're tracking the "how many different players has Tom Brady thrown touchdowns to" list, he has an NFL record 90 but has new potential additions today, with TE Darren Fells and WR Breshad Perriman up from practice squad and rookie WR Jaelon Darden still seeking his first.

Second on the list behind Tom Brady with "most different TD partners" is Vinny Testaverde, who had 70. But he played on seven teams, which helps boost the numbers, as opposed to Brady getting to 91 with two teams.

Bucs come off the bye and

  1. First drive: Penalty leads to 3-and-out
  2. Second drive: Fournette drops pass, Darden gets ball knocked loose for a turnover
  3. Third drive: Tampa fails to convert on a 3rd and 1 with an RB run, forcing Brady to sneak on 4th, only to then get intercepted for the 2nd time in the first quarter

Watching the Pats game and obviously this isn’t on locally. How bad did these picks look because ESPN gamecast only gives stats.

First one was on the receiver straight up he caught it and fumbled it in the air, second one looked like a miscue between Brady and Evans
