OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

I’m just going on what Breer said today as he is a man who has read the book.
It seems as though this book is keeping you up at night. Wickersham does not deserve that amount of space in your head. He is a second rate hack.

  • Agree
Reactions: sb1
I'm not not knocking Brady because he had to be the Frazier to Brady’s Ali.
Greatest comparison ever.

Brady is so great that he is his own Frazier to his own Ali.

Peyton's career, from the perspective of a hater like myself:

The most hyped up QB in college football history and savior to UT, where they're supposed to be national champions.
  • Peyton goes 0-4 against Florida, Tennessee's biggest rival and main competitor during the time.
  • He get excused for being let down by the team and organization. The next year, Tee Martin leads the team to a national title.
He joins the Colts and starts having some regular season success.
  • First postseason game: no touchdowns until garbage time.
  • Second postseason game: loses to Jay Fiedler, who isn't just terrible but also throws 3 INTs in the game.
  • Third postseason game: shutout by Jets, an average defensive team, 41-0.
Goes into regular season domination mode, winning MVPs, throwing 49 TDs, breaking records.
  • In 2003, humiliated at Foxboro, as he throws 4 INTs, including 3 to Ty Law.
  • In 2004, humiliated at Foxboro again, scoring just 3 points in the 49 TD season. Cries to the league about holding and forever changes the rules.
  • With the #1 seeed the next year, one-and-done to Pittsburgh, scoring just 18 points. After the game, tells the press the team had "protection problems" and throws line under bus.
Finally wins a Super Bowl when the following happens:
  • In 2006, advances to AFCCG after "beating the Ravens." Colts did not score a touchdown in the game.
  • In AFCCG, numerous Patriots defenders miss game/leave game due to injury/flu. His crowning moment is a comeback against a weak Patriots squad, whereby he dug them into a huge hole. The refs later apologize to the Patriots for key botched call.
  • In Super Bowl 41, wins Super Bowl MVP award with a 70 passer rating, and his long touchdown coming on a flukey, broken coverage. Colts score defensive touchdown and the team rushes for 191 yards on the ground.
After his Super Bowl "win"
  • In 2007, leads one of the greatest teams in NFL history, through 8 weeks (overshadowed by Patriots) to the postseason and gains #2 seed. Loses first home game to Chargers after Billy Volek replaces injured Philip Rivers.
  • In 2008, steals MVP, goes 1-and-done again, losing to the Chargers and Rivers, who many felt deserved MVP.
  • In 2009, steals MVP, leads team to the Super Bowl after essentially running the table (only lost when he was rested/benched.). Primed for his moment in the sun, throws horrible back breaking pick 6 in the fourth quarter. Loses to Brees, who many felt deserved MVP.
  • In 2010, goes 1-and-done, losing at home yet again.
Broncos (or, Colts, part II)
  • Leads Brocnos to #1 seed in AFC; goes one-and-done, losing to Ravens. After Ravens force overtime, Broncos get ball; Manning, on second down, throws backpedaling, choke pass over the middle that gets intercepted, leading to loss.
  • In 2013, throws 55 TD passes; gets annhilated in one of the saddest Super Bowl showings ever. Loses track of snap count on first play, leading to safety. Throws two interceptions, one a pick six, directly to defenders.
  • In 2014, leads Broncos back to postseason as #2 seed. One-and-done loss to Colts and Andrew Luck. Scores just 13 points in an embarassingly poor game from offense.
Wins second Super Bowl when the following happens:
  • Benched for Brock Osweiler for a good portion of the season.
  • Does not participate in game where Broncos turn season around and change momentum against Patriots.
  • Finishes with 44 passer rating, which becomes the lowest passer rating ever for SB winning quarterback.
  • Gets caught in a clear HGH scandal, which gets immediately white washed due to league pressure and several goons intimidating the whistle blower; claims HGH, from a scandal-ridden sports doctor, was for his wife and gets a pass.
  • In Super Bowl 50, gets intercepted twice on horrendously poor passes. Averages less than 4 yards per dropback, including sacks.
  • Praised as "the GOAT" temporarily. Gets paid tons of money to hug Papa John in front of cameras and then stump for Budweiser during his unearned farewell/sunset speech.

Aaron Rodgers having that many TDs with just one SB appearance is blowing my mind. How many of those are garbage time?

Modified rules and extra games make it so that it's possible that someone can break the records.

All true.

It's interesting to see such a drastic difference between Regular season Peyton and Post season Peyton.

Regular season Peyton was incredible. Methodical and in complete control of his offense.

Post season Manning looked uncomfortable and rarely looked as poised as he did in the regular season.

It's strange how different he played in the post season.

Modified rules and extra games make it so that it's possible that someone can break the records.
I agree on the stats. I think it will be very difficult for someone to break his regular and post-season win totals.

Brady will own all the regular season volume stats records by like 1/4 through the year and that's not even what he's about as a player. Just unreal.

It seems as though this book is keeping you up at night. Wickersham does not deserve that amount of space in your head. He is a second rate hack.
Two words…“Warm Gatorade”. Yep that guy.

The winning records just seem impossible to beat. Manning in second with an impressive 186-79. Then you look at Brady and he’s 230-69. 44 more wins and 10 less losses.

The playoff wins speak for themselves. He’s more than doubled Montana.

I still don’t know if anyone will beat the playoff passing records even though it’s gotten easier to pass. The amount of years someone would have to play, along with making consistent deep runs.

Mahomes is currently ahead of the Brady wins pace.

He wouldn’t take the type of calculated risks in the postseason. You can tell he was always terrified of losing the game with a mistake. That‘s the entire difference between Brady and Manning. Brady is the coldest assassin I’ve seen…he will throw the most high-risk, needle threading passes with his legacy on the line. Manning would turtle.

Peyton >> Brees

Mahomes is currently ahead of the Brady wins pace.

Back in 2011 Rodgers was going into the playoffs leading a 15-1 team as the favorites to win back to back super bowls. Everyone and their mother expected the next great dynasty. I don’t need to tell you what happened over the next decade.

For anybody interested they just released America's Game today well yesterday in the East Coast on the 2020 Buccaneers

Sure. I'm just pointing out that there's someone out there currently on pace to do what a poster says looks impossible, and who now has an edge because of added games.

If you remove Peyton Manning‘s rookie year (3-13), as Brady and Mahomes redshirted, Manning’s career regular season win pct. would be .735. Brady is .769.

It isn’t inconceivable someone could keep this kind of pace, though Russell Wilson’s “pace” for some of Brady’s records is kind of a punchline these days. He’s still playing at a high level, but he regressed as expected due to his contract and no longer having a historically great defense.

Still quite a few question marks with Mahomes and Chiefs talent when his contract kicks in, but I think his level of success - while not having an elite defense - suggests he’ll remain at a very high Brady-type level.
