OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

I don't get where the whole "Patriots will limit/destroy the Chiefs" thing comes from, since it's never really happened and, when it's been closest to being true, it's been in Patriots losses rather than wins.

2018: 40 and 31 points (2 Patriots wins)
2019: 23 points (Chiefs win)
2020: 26 points (Chiefs win)
Ya I think in NE if they put up 25 on the chiefs they can win. I think limiting KC to 24 in the playoffs would be elite and NE can do it.

Bruce Arians after seeing Tom Brady running twice for 1st downs on the same drive against the #Bills "That's enough hits, alright?"

At this point, the precedent is that MVP goes to the QB with the best stats on the best team. And I get that, Tom Brady has a better MVP case than Josh Allen. But watching that Bills-Bucs game yesterday, you could tell Allen was the best QB on the field.

That will not be hard this year. Chiefs offense hasn't been elite unless they play the Raiders. I would still not want to play them though part of me feels they're about to turn it on offense soon

I'm only referring to this season. Chiefs don't match up well to NE. Mahomes is playing meh and his improv style would get destroyed by an elite D. That's NE.

Offensive series results: how often do you take a 1st down and earn a new 1st down (or score) on that series?

I don't know why coaches don't protect their QB more. Allen was limping at the midpoint of that game. If Allen played like that every game, yeah he'd be amazing, he also wouldn't last the season.

Great cartoon. But the Bills are tied for eighth out of 32 teams in terms of total opponent penalties. Their fans are complaining that there's preferential treatment for the Bucs, who have gotten the NFL's 2nd-fewest opponent penalty yards this year, 167 less than the Bills have.

I hear what Bills fans are saying -- Josh Allen had 54 pass attempts Sunday and Bucs weren't called for DPI or defensive holding ONCE. Seems impossible, right? Except same happened to Bucs with Tom Brady and loss to Rams in Week 3. 55 throws, no Rams DPI/holding penalties.

You can't really protect running QBs. I mean, you can limit their runs a bit, but there's not much to be done beyond that. That's why I laugh when people talk about pocket passers as if their ceilings are automatically lower and/or they should be passed on in the draft.

The NFL has done everything short of putting flags on the QBs, but injuries are still going to happen, and they're going to happen more often if your QB is also doubling as a running back.

Updated NFL rankings for Bucs offense -- 1st in scoring, 1st in total offense, 1st in passing, 25th in rushing, 1st in sack %, 6th in interception %, 2nd on third down, 5th in red zone.

Updated NFL rankings for Bucs defense -- 14th in total defense, 19th in scoring, 3rd vs. run, 24th vs. pass, 15th in sack %, 9th in interception %, 18th on third down, 13th in red zone.

Nobody has scored on the Bucs defense and Todd Bowles the way the Saints have. Since start of 2019 when Arians/Bowles arrived, Bucs have given up 34+ points nine times: Saints: 4 times in 6 tries Everyone else: 5 times in 43 tries

It's even more glaring in games in Tampa, where Sunday's Bucs-Saints game will be played. Since start of 2019, Bucs have given up 34+ at home three times: Saints: twice in two tries Everyone else: once in 19 tries

I think it's important to also not gloss over that Brady is about to get named to his 15th pro bowl which will give him the record alone. Previously he was tied with I believe five other Hall of Fame players so this actually matters and really he should have got it last year but getting awarded this year is special given all the other records he has broken and continues to break.

Ok now explain why there has only been one holding call on a Bills receiver ALL YEAR. Thats 500 drop backs with 4 targets. 2000 targets, 1 hold.

Again, it's crazy, but not unique to Buffalo. One defensive holding penalty all season seems insane, but it's exactly the same as what Seattle has this year. Arizona, Cincinnati, Houston -- two defensive holding calls each, all year. You just don't hear about it from them much.

99 drop backs over last 2 games. 0 defensive holding or DPI penalties in favor of Bills. I'm sorry, but in today's NFL that doesn't happen.

It does though. Not to cherry pick, but to use the exact team Bucs are facing this week: Saints offense has drawn two defensive holding and three DPI penalties from opponents all year. Five in 12 games, in 459 pass attempts against them. Bills have six.

At some point you just have to stop crying about the refs. I feel like teams that do that always remain losers because they never do what it really takes to just win.

I mean it's sports. Bad calls are going to happen. The really great teams always rise above that.

There was a play on the last possession in regular time and Brady got hit in the face mask and it wasn't called. If that gets called the game is over. But it didn't. So what are you going to do? Throw the game-winning 58 yard touchdown in overtime and walk off the field a winner.

You are a bit confused. You aren't allowed to discuss anything like that ever. Brady gets the most roughing the passer penalties (actually pretty much the least but it's ok we are just talking here) and all penalties that help his team are cheating.

I notice that the probowl voting follows from one year to the next.

If you are a probowler this year, then next year the player gets the benefit of the doubt and gets a head start as a probowl favorite. And vice versa if you weren't a probowler.

Brady had a down season in 2019 and everyone thought he wasn't elite anymore. It took until the midpoint of the 2020 season for people to change that view.

Murray was undeserving last year and choked down the stretch. After last night's game and seeing the Cardinals schedule, I expect Murray to choke again. There's still 2 more losses for the Cards.

I think it's being given more attention for a couple of reasons.

The wave of new officials (and retention of the Boger's of the world) is leading to a lot more ****ty officiating.
For whatever reason(s), there's a push being made to make all the officials full time.
