OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

I think Bourne has been a great signing as well. It’s a typical free agency when you spend big.

One is a hit but is still well paid (Judon).

One is good but not elite like his contract (Henry),

One is a bust (Smith.)

One is pretty good but not very good like his contract (Agholor).

A few are a mixed bags (Godchaux, Brown.).

And as usual the best values are the cheaper guys (Bourne, Van Noy).

That’s free agency. The Patriots did better than most teams with the results so far. But I think the reason a lot of the margins don’t show is because of the dirt cheap QB salary and the emerging homegrown talent is making a huge difference.
The last 2 drafts have been excellent. That was always going to be the quickest back to contention.

I know the circumstances didn't make it a normal trade for Gronk but looking back yikes were the Pats fleeced or what.

Too bad they couldn't or didn't add conditions to the trade. If he plays X games and gets X catches and yards Pats get a third round pick instead of a 4th, etc.
I look at it this way. They did it as a parting thank you to Brady and Gronk. They wanted to play together and the Pats weren't going to get in the way.

The Pat's normally do the fleecing so getting the short end here is only fair.

They're pushing everything to the back end of contract.
I can understand that with a superstar player near the end of their careers like Brady and Rodgers, but Mahome has about 15 more years.

The Pat's are so good at avoiding it that it took 20 years until last year. For the Chiefs, it's going to blow up in their face within 5 years. Either Mahomrs will be throwing to scrubs and rookies, or they'll have a defence on the cheap.

Or what if Mahomes continues to regress or at best, stays where he is right now? I mean talk about a mountain of a contract that will literally strangle that organization for a decade if he is no longer elite.

I am interested in seeing if Mahomes can lead a team to the AFCCG with talent similar to Edelman-Thompkins-Dobson

The issue with Mahomes I don't think is talent. He has plenty of talent this season and is struggling. He is terrible at reading his Oline and moving in the pocket which gets him into trouble 9 out of 10 times. The other issue is because of his arm talent, he struggles to take the check down or slant consistently. He could never do what Brady did vs Atlanta and throws 50 passes with 40 of them being in the flat. This is why the cover 2 is so effective against him. He just can't program himself to be patient. The other issue which no one is really touching on is how inaccurate he has been this year. He is just simply missing receivers all over the place. Not sure if it is injury-related but to me, that has been the biggest drop off in his game from the last 3 seasons to this one.

Head coach Sean McDermott said on Friday that Lotulelei has been ruled out due to the toe injury that he suffered in Monday night’s loss to the Patriots. Lotulelei had missed three games while on the COVID-19 reserve list before returning to face New England and McDermott said that being in and out of the lineup is hard on the veteran tackle...

... McDermott also ruled tight end Tommy Sweeney out with a hip injury.

Richard Sherman is back on the Buccaneers’ active roster.

Sherman was designated to return from injured reserve this week and the Bucs announced that the cornerback has been activated on Friday. Sherman missed the last six games with a calf injury.

Head coach Bruce Arians said that Sherman could see some time at safety, but the exact plans for this Sunday’s game against the Bills are unclear.

If they do want to give him some time at that position, he could help fill in for Jordan Whitehead. He’s been ruled out for the second straight week with a calf injury.

more breaks for Mahomes and the Chiefs

Giants - no Barkley or Golladay
Packers - no Rodgers
Cowboys - no Cooper or Smith
Broncos - no Gordon
Raiders - no Waller
Chargers - potentially no Williams

Just saw this book on Amazon that chronicles the Tampa season last year so I wanted to share. I just ordered a copy from my library.

Can't post the link for some reason so here is the title and author:

A Season in the Sun: The Inside Story of Bruce Arians, Tom Brady, and the Making of a Champion

Book by Lars Anderson

Brady's interview with SI being named Sportsman of year for 2021.

More good news for Bucs on the injury front: CB Jamel Dean and WR Jaelon Darden have both cleared concussion protocol and can play in Sunday’s game against Bills.

The most important players on Tampa's offense are gronk, brown, and Lenny. If you add up the salaries of just those three players Licht should be GM of the year just for those signings, not to mention Brady.
None of those players end up with the Bucs if not for Brady.
