Otto Graham did this. His record was 105-17-4 or 57-13-1 depending on where you look. He also had the accolades and dominant stats for his era.

How big of a difference did one man make? Graham retired after the 1955 season. The 1956 Browns returned their other ten offensive starters and had the leagues best defense - allowing 41 fewer points than the 1955 title team. They went 5-7.

Normally, one would always choose the franchise LT before the C. I don’t think this is the case. I’d have no problem letting Smith walk and bringing back Jensen if I were Licht, Brady, and Co. Smith is not worth that number. He struggled badly without Marpet and nearly got Brady killed in the middle of the season.

Smith and Cappa are the clear weak links on that OL. But that leaves 3 questions to be answered before any changes should be made:

1. Are they good enough?
2. Can they be responsibly upgraded?
3. Are they integral to the newly installed culture?

Smith and Cappa are the clear weak links on that OL. But that leaves 3 questions to be answered before any changes should be made:

1. Are they good enough?
2. Can they be responsibly upgraded?
3. Are they integral to the newly installed culture?

Just a hunch, but I think Licht drafts OL with pick 32. If Brady is clean, he is still the best QB in the game.

I'm thinking they might look for another big DT. Seeing life without Vea should hopefully, IMO, inspire them to think about depth at that position, even if Suh comes back.


But, if they spend wisely on their FAs, they should have the advantage that the Patriots had on occasion during the Brady years: The ability to draft when they're at least pretty solid just about everywhere.

Could they let Smith go and draft a rookie LT? Brate is a guy they can cut as well and save 6.5 million dollars. It’s risky going with a rookie LT.

They did that with Wirfs at RT last year and it worked out spectacularly. However, unlikely to work again especially given where they're picking this year. The risk is if the rookie ends up being horrible could derail the whole offense - would be better to keep Smith and know they're at least getting average/okay play at that spot.

I like your idea, as the baseline. But I do think that, if a quality LB falls, going that route might be a wise choice.

Me too. They have that luxury because their skill guys on both sides are set and have depth. Bolster the lines and continue to dominate the trenches.

The 2007 when it had a healthy Roosevelt Colvin, Stephen Neal, and Kevin Faulk was unbeatable.

The lose of Colvin to that defense can't be understated. It allowed Addalius Thomas to play in the middle and Seau and Teddy to spell each other so they were fresh on the field.

Imagine if it was Colvin grabbing that fumble in the Superbowl over Woods?
