OT: Official 2020 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

I feel like the public is so disgusted by Antonio Brown's off-field behavior - and rightfully so - that there isn't enough talk that he'll most likely continue to be one of the best wide receivers in the league. He is 32 years old, which is typically still at the end of a WR's prime. He'll have Brady throwing to him. There's really no reason to assume he'll be in decline, and he was maybe the NFL's best receiver for the last decade.

The contract situation makes this potentially the biggest bargain in the NFL, and all you hear about is a doomsday outcome which is basically impossible considering he is signed cheap for 8 games and they've been fine without him.

He’s a great route runner. Just adds extra insurance in case of an injury and Evans tends to be disappeared a lot. I’m sure he’s not 100 percent but he could do more.

It's just the Brady hate. Guaranteed if he went to Seattle they would be talking about his redemption story. I agree though with all your points. Something no one is talking about is the cast of weapons around Brown. He never had a group like this in Pitt. He may see some one-on-one coverage from time to time as there are just too many weapons to double everyone. Gronk could have LBs on him the majority of the time as you have to dedicate DBs to the receivers especially with the 4 receiver sets.

Manning's take is absurd. Really ridiculous. I have seen Brady make that throw to Gronk a million times. He lofted it right between 3 defenders. There is no way he was targeting Evans from that spot. I agree with Skip that he looked at Evans to draw his man down so Gronk would be open toward the sideline. It was a thing of beauty. Any less of a throw and it is picked.

That's definitely what it looked like to me as well. I wish Tom, himself, would talk about the play.

I doubt he does. It was 2 games ago and he is already lasered focused on the Giants. I bet he did text Manning though. LOL

Similar to last week for the Bucs, looks like the Giants Oline will not be practicing this week.

I didn't mean now necessarily... but yes, he is focused on the tasks at hand for sure.

It‘s like Brown has been lumped into that group of “former star players” who have big name reputation but are no longer dominant and are expected to make a few plays per game.

Fact is Brown, even if he has slightly declined, is a better receiver than Godwin, and based on Brown’s route tree, Brady will probably look to him foremost, even when Evans is healthy.

I don’t see why he won’t be targeted frequently. There’s no way Brady will be good with throwing to him 4 times per game, after the assimilation. I think people are underestimating this move and that Brown will frequently be a 100+ yard guy.

If Brown is 90% of what he was in 2018 he is the best receiver on their roster.

It is to me. With our coaching, I figured Cam would be at least competent/good like we saw in the Miami game. I did not think he would look anything close to what we saw vs Denver and San Fran.

We saw Jacoby Brissett in the offense. It was even worse. I never had any hopes that our QB would play better than Cam is now, unless he was a top QB in this league. As bad as Cam looks, it's really what we can expect when we don't have a franchise QB. I just tend to think we've forgotten what QBs elsewhere look like. Someone linked to Bomani Jones recently having a really insightful discussion about race in America, which then went off the rails when he talked about how good he thought Tyrod Taylor was. Most of the league has to deal with paying the Taylors of the world $19m a year. It's just normal.

No doubt. He will be massive.

I do too for the simple fact that it just can't get any worse. The guy is a former MVP for crying out loud!

He is better than this for sure--but he was let go by his team and no one wanted him.

Brissett was volumes better than Cam. He was money in the Houston game and played the Bills with a busted thumb. I also liked what I saw from him in Indy until he got hurt. I would much rather him right now.

ESPN Insider story and can only see the free portion...by Aaron Schatz (Football Outsiders). Tampa needs to beat New Orleans, which I think would get them to 12-4 minimum....lose that game and this would be a frustrating team that might not win their division despite being historically good.

One thing in his favor is the weather. I remember Marino saying how much the Miami sun helped him stay limber late into the season. Brady does not have any cold weather games on the schedule as he already went to Chicago. That should help him a lot down the stretch.
Another thing in his and the teams favour is the late by in early December. They get to rest and heal before the final stretch.
