Lance was a huge reach based on almost no competitive football, and what there was, was at a mediocre level. Wasn't it something like 1 game in the year before being drafted, and I don't think he did much in that one. Nothing against the kid but he would have been better off as a mid-round pick to learn his craft in anonymity. Hard to call him a bust as he wasn't a star in college (outside of Fargo). I'd say it was just a terrible decision by SF.

It’s one thing to miss on a high 1st round pick, but to give up that capital and have the pick bust.. man that cannot happen.

I thought Shanahan let Lynch be GM. I think Shanahan always has final say. That said, even though this is a catastrophe, the 49ers have been so good that there’s no way Shanahan is losing his job for this.

I'm not sure I'd put him there yet but if he can't latch onto another team, and is out of football in a year then probably yeah.
