79. Forever young.

My basketball idol growing up. He was class personified and a very nice man. My parents spent some time with him when he was a rookie with the Cs.

Wow..... he embellished being a Celtic. "Havlicek stole the ball". Thanks for the memories. RIP.

he was one of the best in the golden era of Celtics basketball

He retired a tick before I started watching hoops.

Greatness. Class. Champion. Celtic.

RIP Hondo

Havlicek carried the team on his back in that bridge from the Russell era Celtics through the Dave Cowens teams, to just a couple years before Larry Bird arrived.

Belichick would have loved his versatility as being a superb player on both ends of the court who could excel at both forward and guard. Almost played in the NFL with the Browns.

Incredibly clutch.

Thanks for all the wonderful memories.... RIP

Wow, a symbolic legend has passed. Rip, you entertained so many and were endeared by so many as well.

Wow--just met him last summer, my brother is his neighbor. Across the street--saw us wearing Boston gear one day and we got to talking. He was the picture of health.

Oh man, one of the heros of my youth. I adored the 60's Celtics, they even played an intra squad game at my high school back in the fall of 1962- I remember seeing Hondo- he was a rookie. RIP John, a super class act and a fabulous basketball player.

I was privileged to watch him play for many years. RIP Hondo

His roommates on the road complained that Hav was so tidy that he put his socks on a hanger.

Jarrin' John...I modeled my release after his. Sad day

Don't expect too much but I hope the C's at least make it to the finals. Means nothing to Hondo now but I think it'd be a nice symbolic tribute. RIP

rip Hondo. I miss seeing him at Celtics games. I got hooked on Celtics basketball watching him play in the early 70s. he is the all-time leading scorer for the Celtics. that's saying something when you think of how many great players the Celtics have had. and he did it without the three-point line. 8 rings a hof. he could run and run and run for days. what an amazing career. god, bless his family.
