The Jets' lose leverage? How do you figure? He can't play for anyone else unless the Jets say so, for FOUR years.

If anyone loses leverage its Revis. Id make him play for what he signed for or let him stay home and cry

Re: Jets Owner: Revis Unlikely to Sign Before Start of Season

Thanks for that clarification.

Bottom line, the only leverage Revis has is to sit out four years, and he gets fined $16,000 a day for missing time.

Well, actually, his contract voids after his fourth year unless the JESTers buy the remaining two back, and I'm not sure whether he has any veto power over that or not.

Nevertheless, I'm glad to see him hold out, and certainly hope he continues all season long.

Re: Jets Owner: Revis Unlikely to Sign Before Start of Season

If he does not report tomorrow and he signs a deal, let's say two weeks from now, does he still lose the year of eligibility or can the Jets wave it or does it become irrelevant at that point?

If he does not report tomorrow, this will get really ugly:rocker: I am getting flashes of Branch...

I was going to post the same thing at the same time minus the Branch reference

It's not as bad as Branch's situation unfortunately...but it will be hell for both sides.

And sweet, sweet JESTenfraude for Pats fans.

Re: Jets Owner: Revis Unlikely to Sign Before Start of Season

It could get there though... but the thing is Branch was much more important to us that year than Revis is to them this year given that Caldwell became our first receiver and we came up so short

Re: Jets Owner: Revis Unlikely to Sign Before Start of Season

Revis has already removed the 'guarantee' from the $20 million he was scheduled to earn in 2011-2012:

y holding out, Revis effectively turned his salary for 2011 and 2012, a total of $20 million, from guaranteed to nonguaranteed. He is also subject to a daily $16,000 fine, and if he does not show up by Aug. 10, he will lose an accrued season.

Given all of that, Revis still thought that playing this season for $1 million presented the biggest risk of all. He has scoffed at the amount of guaranteed money (very little) the Jets have offered. He knows that this is an uncapped season, that next season is not guaranteed. That only adds to the uncertainty.

His leverage is the withholding of his services. If a deal is not worked out and the Jets struggle early, his leverage will increase. If a deal is not worked out and the Jets thrive early, his leverage will decrease.

well let's hope Brady helps give Revis more leverage after week 2...it feels like a win-win for us Patriot fans anyhow.

Still, if he hink he's getting 15 million a year, he better be playing more than just cornerback

I think you're missing my point: if he's still holding out in 24 hours, he will already have lost his year towards FA, and his salary will already be nonguaranteed. He doesn't have anything left to lose that he hasn't already lost.

And the Jets will reach a compromise with Revis eventually; they have to. They won't be able to defend like they did last year without him: Just wait until Brady lights them up for 30+ points in week 2, and see how much leverage Revis has then. And if Brandon Marshall has a big game the following week...

And Cromartie becomes the Jets' top corner (remember, they live and die by their defense) without Revis. As much as losing Branch sucked for us, Revis would be worse for the Jets.

Re: Jets Owner: Revis Unlikely to Sign Before Start of Season

Greg Bishop of the NY Times was on Sirius NFL radio. He said the Jets' most recent offer guaranteed Revis $5 million in 2010 and "not much after that". He said the Jets offered Revis a similiarly structured deal like Ferguson and that nothing is really guaranteed and his 2010 salary will just be bumped up by several million through a modest guarantee.

Ferguson was stupid to sign that deal. No way Revis will. There is a good chance unless the Jets offer him something like $10-15 million just to come in and play this year that this could last through the season. If Revis doesn't report tomorrow, there is no reason for him to go to the Jets without a new deal.

Re: Jets Owner: Revis Unlikely to Sign Before Start of Season

It's complicated, 30% rule, unknown situation with the CBA, potential lock out looming, add in a corner back/GM that mite be unreasonable. Adds up to a real bummer of a situation for all involved, most importantly me.

I stated a week ago, after doing my due diligence that Revis would be inked to a new deal by tommorrow. Seems I was wrong.

I am not upset with Revis or the Jets, just disapointed with the way business is done in the NFL.

You are probably the most reasonable Jets fan in the world... though I am enjoying your uncomfortable situation quite a bit

Make him play for what he originally held out to get.

This guy now has two hold outs in what, three years? Epitome of a me-first guy.

Re: Jets Owner: Revis Unlikely to Sign Before Start of Season

As far as D Brick being foolish to sign the deal he did,,,, I am not so sure, Elvis Dumerville signed a similar contract.

Use to be you could find a Miquel or a Jason423 to explain things, now no one knows what the hell is going on, at least not all the particulars.

Case in point Miami when they cut Porter then had to take him back, and to a lesser extent what is going on in SD.

Yes

I must admit I am getting pleasure out of the Mankins situation also.

I blame the Jets for a number of reasons:

1.) They have been active players in overpaying to acquire other teams; talent in free agency. Bart Scott got an above market deal, so did Alan Faneca, so did Calvin Pace.
2.) The Jets have a history of at least allegations of trating players under contract like crap when it comes to contract negotiations.
3.) The Jets made a big deal about getting Revis under a new contract. If they weren't going to make him an offer that didn't have at least $30-40 million in guarantees, they shouldn't have opened their mouths.
4.) Rex Ryan has talked up Revis far too much. He says that he is the best CB in the NFL. He says Revis is as important to the Jets as Brady is to the Pats or Manning is to the Colts. Why wouldn't Revis want to be paid like the top paid CB in the league?

Re: Jets Owner: Revis Unlikely to Sign Before Start of Season

This is their excuse when they fail.

That'll make it so much sweeter when they come to New England in December and get their **** kicked in again.

File this under reason 53 that this team is a vastly overrated group of media whores.

Our G contract situation is giving you pleasure? Oh woe is us!

How will we live without our lockdown Mankin's Island!

Re: Jets Owner: Revis unlikely to sign before start of season

An OL Guard lost vs a lockdown CB.....hmmmmmm

I think I'd rather have the Pats problem ..........
