OT: J.J. McCarthy Threatening to Hold Out of Camp

Does he?

I don't know much about contracts but I'm assuming if he holds out he gets zero dollars, has no access to facilities, and is basically in limbo until he signs. Enjoy the CFL at a fraction of the salary, during which time MN will continue to hold your rights so you won't be able to play in the NFL at any point.

If I'm MN I'll wait him out and let Darnold take the snaps. It's not like Minnesota is contending for a championship, and they are likely finishing last in the division regardless of who is under center.
What I meant By leverage isn't monetary. Meaning on the practice field. The team can't see what he and JJ will be developing a connection. If Oconnell is being honest he likely does not want darnold as his starting QB.

I think it's a lack of leverage either way. They aren't counting on him to come in and make them a contender, or at least they shouldn't be. JJ obviously has a higher ceiling than Darnold simply because he hasn't yet taken a snap. But he can definitely have an equal or lower floor.

I'm sure they don't want Darnold to be their starter either, but I think it sends a bad message to let a rookie push the front office around.

I agree. As we know O Connell really wanted Drake. But settled on McCarthy. I agree with your overall point. One would think that not having played a down in the league, and already playing hard ball. Then again it could be his agent pushing. He needs to look at the bug Picture. Due to where he was drafted he's still in line for a nice rook contract. I'm sure it pays alot more than dairy queen of he hadn't been drafted.

Agree. Unless PM subscribes to the Alex Guerrero plan I don't see him playing until 40.. or Reid coaching into his 70s.. therefore no one is catching up with 8.. people forget we went 10 years in between winning a Lombardi.... just thought I'd mention this!

Yep, we should’ve won 3 during the Lost Decade.

We actually have lost more superbowls then most teams have ever been too! The 08, ugh still hurts 16 years later.. we know what that one meant, every SB we did win came down to the last few minutes.. some want to anoint KC the next dynasty.. not to sure.. eventually the 49ers are going to win one..

We’ll see about the 49ers? They should of won last year if not for the outrageous refs protecting the oline with no holding calls and Shanahan doing his usual.

They have to pay Purdy soon, Aiyuk is either gonna be traded or play on the one year deal. Kinlaw and Young are gone. Don’t think it’s gonna be that easy as that window is slowly starting to close.

I tend to agree. I just mentioned them as they likely still are the best team in the NFC.. with Detroit and Philly right there as well. Yeah Purdy is definitely a beneficiary of the times for a QB.. he's a steady, workman like player that follows the game plan nothing flashy. Thier D line is getting up there in age, and father time waits for no one.. bosa is always hurt as well. I don't think enough people really understand the level of winning we sustained for so long.. I confidently say that no one is sustaining what he had for 2 decades..

KC is off to a great start with Mahomes.

1. SF is clearly one of the best teams in the NFC and are usually one of the 5 teams in considering the Super Bowl.

2. You cannot be a repeating Super Bowl contender without a top 5 QB,

3. Purdy is clearly NOT one of the top 5 QB's in the NFL,
=====================================
Please comment on this logic.

I clearly have something wrong.

I just mentioned SF as in thier conference... we know the AFC is the dominant conference in the NFL.

as long as they have Mahomes.

I wouldn't be surprised to see someone else as the underdog to SF in a Super Bowl matchup.

Agreed. As long as they have a healthy Mahomes.
