@Pape And I were not to long talking about this. Hahaha.. if darnold is besting him then Minnesota has real problems..
Granted, i don't think he will ever win a ring, but they should have kept "Captain" Kirk Cousins til what ever rookie they snagged was ready... killed the franchise to save a few bucks...

Reminiscent of Brady Quinn or Christian Hackenberg,

Agreed.. I thought Cousins would finish his career in Minnesota.. JJ, hockenson.. now Minnesota has it's self in a conundrum.. I know they really, really wanted Drake though

I admit that I had JJ right behind Maye, if the skins had taken Drake I wanted them to trade out or take JJ if they had their hearts set on a QB but preferably trade down.

He didn't, Penix went #8 overall to the Falcons.

He did go before Bo Nix though
That's right! ( slaps head)
But the fact they were even ?talking about it leading up the draft was f'n riduculous.
I'm not a big Bo Nix fan, either but I'd take him over JJ as well.
I got nothing against him- Ive just never seen anything from him that shows me he can even be an average nfl qb.

Curran had a love affair for him.. probably the only time I ever disagree with curran.. Drake as NFL GMs and scouts all agreed he was the best QB prospect. It's funny Drake had no problem signing his contract!
FWIW, @BaconGrundleCandy had a post pointing out that McCarthy would've been a pretty good fit here.

JJM was very good off play action, so I agree that he would have been good here. He also has ability to throw well on the run, so boots/keepers would have worked really well for his game.

Well.. Sam darnold is beating him out and Oconnell mentioned darnold Is QB1.. I liked McCarthy.. but am happy we have Drake.

I am very happy that we have Drake. Darnold is not a bad QB, so I am not completely unsurprised that Darnold is #1.
Slight to moderate chuckle as I read the words I never thought I would “Darnold is not a bad QB…”

I’m not sure what metrics you used as the base to your assessment, but you might be the most positive leaning poster in the history of this website !

And his dliverey was excellent.

JJM as a top draft pick was a creation of Jim Harbaugh in an effort to get the first four picks as QBs.

That would have put Harrison Jr. lining up with Herbert.

Maybe he'll be a good NFL QB, but there's no reason to think so that I've ever seen. He has all the tools at what looks like a pedestrian level.

I had something like this in there too
Spread/RPO/Designed runs - runners who can pass, take advantage of athleticism, versatility to exploit defenses
Maye, Daniels, Williams,

WCO/Timing - footwork, short/intermediate, quick drops, boot/pa
Travis, JJ, Rattler, Nix, Hartman

Traditional pocket passers - PA, MOF, intermediate/deep, longer drops
Penix, Pratt, Leary, Hartman

Deep ball passers ideally with ground n Pound
Williams, Maye, Milton, Daniels

Maye isn't the first QB I'd create for a typical AVP system but you don't pass on his upside and athleticism. I think this deserves mention again since the topic at hand. Maye came from an Air Raid variation that tried to get more balance his last year. Footwork wasn't exactly the emphasis even though it's a constant in every scheme. I bring that up for some context when talking about his mechanics. I know he's sought help from different people the past few years. Hopefully more emphasis is a good thing in terms of speeding up the process in developing.

Reports from Denver are that Nix is looking pretty good.
Given that he's almost three years older than Maye and started twice as many games, a team drafting him would hope he's more of a finished product. . . .

[For the record . . .
Bo Nix: born Feb 2000
Michael Penix: May 2000
Jayden Daniels: Dec 2000
Caleb Williams: Nov 2001
Drake Maye: Aug 2002
JJ McCarthy: Jan 2003]

I see this as a red flag if I'm the Vikings front office - meaning McCarthy doesn't think he'll get another contract in the future. However, I do think contracts need to be guaranteed which would also help reduce the overpaying of players.
I think the bonus is guaranteed. It's just a matter if it get all get paid up front or in installments. The downside if it's installments is that the Vikings can reneg on the balance if JJ gets cut for conduct unbecoming, and even then, it would be contested.
