OT: Goff gets paid

He’s been pretty good in recent years but eh. Atleast he has more playoff success and more to show than say a Kirk Cousins. This would also look better optics wise if his coach didn’t completely sh*t out in the NFCC and choke away a cake walk win after the half with his idiocy

What's the alternative, he's not that great but has a great OC and some talent around him and he does enough with that system.
They don't sign him they lose the contender window.
That's the going rate for a solid, middle of the road QB. They had no choice.
We really need to take advantage of Maye's rookie contract.

Goff isn’t worth that amount of money. I understand the ‘what is the alternative’ and ‘he and Detroit go together’ ….. but we are talking about a good, at times very good player. He’s not in the league of the 20 best QBs of the 2000s.

He's produced like a top 10 guy for them. I'd be thrilled if we were locking up a guy with his production.

Looking at the comments people think the NFL still has the same salary cap since 2001.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I think Zach Wilson should get at least that much on his next contract.

Guy Inking the Contract on Lions Behalf: "Wait.

I thought I put $21 mil/17 gtd.

Oh God."

When Mayes rookie deal is up the first 100 mill a year QB lol.
Why the hell did Detroit bother drafting a QB.

He is not the 20 best if we look at the past 25 years, but he is a top 10 QB - if not higher - over the past 2 years. He will start at 13% then transition to the 15% to 18% range of percentage of salary cap he takes up which is a little high, but not egregiously so for a top 10 QB (I can't be more precise than that because there are conflicting reports regarding how the contract is broken down).

Now, of course, if he starts to play horribly then it ruins the Lions for some time....

Value or not, I just can't read these numbers without it changing my breathing a little. Never lose the WTF about these salaries!

What network won't have a playoff game in 2026?

They surrounded Goff with elite talents and Jameson Williams should be even better this year.

Exactly and hope at the very least he's like Goff. That said surrounding a young QB with good talent is key.
