OT Giants equipment scandal looking real bad. Employee lies to FBI

The criminal investigation was old - back in 2011 - initially aimed at the dealer. So may be nothing at present. The lying occurred 6 years ago - doubt the lawsuit will rekindle the interest of the FBI. Timeline on this is confusing.

Regarding Eli Manning & the Hall of Fame:

Yes, he probably will get in - mostly because of his last name.

Sure, he is on the career NFL leader board in some passer categories, but does that really mean anything? When Vinny Testaverde retired he was 6th all time in passing yards. The way the game has changed so dramatically, Eli's numbers should be taken with a large grain of salt. He's never been the best QB in the league and has never led the NFL in passing yards, touchdowns or passer rating. Zero times all-pro, even second team. The only notable passing category he has ever led the NFL in is interceptions - which he has done three times.

Eli ranks 8th all time in passing yards, yet his best single season was 4th in 2011 (and would have been 5th, but Green Bay sat Aaron Rodgers in the final game). He is 7th all time in passing touchdowns, but has never finished higher than 4th in any season. By comparison his touchdown percentage is 57th all time and only 8th among active quarterbacks. The biggest reason is because he throws the ball so often ... because the Giants are losing ... because earlier he had thrown a pick.

He has only one season in which he finished in the top ten in passer rating (2011, 7th). That doesn't sound like a HoF QB to me. Looking at all the numbers, Philip Rivers is a far superior quarterback.

Unfortunately when it comes to voting time all we will hear about is the raw numbers (passing yards, passing touchdowns), but ten years from now he will be so far down the list in those categories the next generation will wonder why he ever made it to Canton.

Eli doesn t belong in the HOF, but neither does Joe Namath, and look how that turned out.

Totally agree that he doesn't feel like a HoF player at all.

Reading this from Wikipeadia, you'd think he was one of the most exciting, dominating players ever:

"Manning holds Giants franchise records for most passing yards, touchdown passes, and completed passes in a career,[2] and the NFL record for most fourth-quarter touchdown passes in a season. He led the Giants to victory in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI, defeating the New England Patriots in both games. Manning was named Most Valuable Player in each Super Bowl, becoming one of five players to have multiple Super Bowl MVP awards (Bart Starr and Terry Bradshaw have two, while Joe Montana has three and Tom Brady has four).

Manning is the active iron man for consecutive starts by a quarterback. Manning is one of four quarterbacks in NFL history with at least 45,000 career yards, 300 touchdowns, four Pro Bowl appearances and two Super Bowl championships (John Elway, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning). He is the eighth all-time leader in passing yards, and seventh in passing touchdowns.[3] Though lacking the consistent statistical prowess of his brother, Manning is known for his exceptional performances both in the clutch and in the postseason."

Good grief.

Hes not even in the top 5 of Giants Qbs all-time IMO.

Yikes you would think hes a top 5 Qb of all-time.

The Giants probably won't get punished harshly by the league for this but hopefully this story will drag out for two years and bring about the demise of Goodell due to his incompetence.

I'm pretty sure that regardless of the outcome of the civil complain and the Federal investigation, it will be fairly easy for Eli to be walled off from the actual damage. If the charges turn out to be true, there will be "fall guys" who will take the actual penalties, while the Giants and Manning will be protected by the NFL and all the slick PR people that they have available to them to spin the story away from both the Giants organization in general, and Eli Manning in particular. In other words, "I am shocked to find that there is gambling going on in this establishment"

This is not the NFL investigating - this is the FBI. This is a criminal investigation. The FBI already has 2 people who have lied - they can either go to jail or cooperate. This is not "nothing". People in the Giants organization are at serious legal risk. This is a case of fraud - not hard for anyone to understand. We knew there was a lawsuit - I do not believe we knew there was a criminal investigation - whole different ballgame.

and not a peep out of park avenue on the matter. Not a single mention of this on NFL.com or ESPN.com

They're on damage control and keeping a lid on all media, which just shows that they can decide when to make a huge story out of something and when to bury something... and whenever its the Giants, the story is immediately squashed... their players are punished much less severely for way more serious offenses... they never lose draft picks, etc

For the Pats its the exact opposite... they will dig and dig and dig to try and find ANYTHING that they can spin into a negative story about Brady or the Pats... they even went after his charitable contributions to try and tarnish his reputation and his charitable foundation when its completely legitimate.. but they still try to spin that into something negative..

Now the Giants and good ole E-Lie MANNING are under criminal investigation for DEFRAUDING FANS... and you hear NOTHING from the media about it. Same thing when Manning was outted by a doctor for using HGH and it was proven it as shipped to his home in Florida... the only media stories you heard were to viciously defend Manning and deny all of it, saying his character is without question, etc etc etc...

Its a big ****ing joke is what it is

The feds work deliberately slowly. They want to be able to prove a pattern. A few questionable items in a short timeframe? Eli says, oops, just a mistake. Tough to make that argument over a longer period. You won't hear anything from them while they quietly collect evidence.

Federal prosecutors don't like dropping cases because the FBI was lied to. They haven't forgotten.

So.....
Giants employees were stealing team property, profiting from the sales of the stolen property, and lying to the Feds and the team about these thefts and sales....

And the Giants' subsequent course of action was to...
Retain these employees, keep paying these employees, and fund their defense

Talk about a corporate cover up

It is comforting to know the Judge overseeing this case is a Giants season ticket holder. The USA is officially a Banana Republic

Sadly no. The FBI was investigating when they were going after the sports memorabilia dealer, the Justice Department ended up clearing him because he proved to them that it was the GIANTS who were the ones behind it and the Justice Department has not investigated the GIANTS for fraud, they just went after the little guy. This is all coming out because of the suit buy the dealer against the Giants.

I want to know if Karen Kessler is married to Jeffrey Kessler.
She is not, I already checked her out. Her husband does not seem to have any NFL connection. He is a lawyer too. However there are plenty more avenues such as her partners and the work her crisis management firm has done for the NFL.

Big deal - Justice Berman was seen with Robert Kradt at a 1,000 person party days after he issued his verdict. Why didn't he recuse himself!!!??!

So that's how corruption wins, eh? Deflection, is it?

Smelly-helmetgate update! There's a trial coming in the Fall of 2017 that the judge delayed this week. The long national nightmare of the "game-worn helmet" and cover up drags on.

New evidence emerges against Eli Manning in memorabilia case

This thing is so little league. At least we get some science and legal education benefits from murders, prison suicides, frame up jobs, federal courts, gas laws and the occasional investigation sparked by a super model on a talk show. Eli can't even get a scandal right.

I hope you're right but all I see is corruption, corruption, corruption. So it's hard for me to have faith the justice system will do the just thing.

I'm sure the feds haven't forgotten. That being said, they don't like to lose; Their conviction rate is incredibly high. To hit such a high rate, they only push cases to trial that are rock solid. Notice how they dropped charges against the collector once the evidence started showing cracks? They didn't want to lose at trial. They may never charge anyone in the Giants organization if the evidence has holes. Doesn't mean they are not trying, though.

This again? Christ, just give him four games and be done with it. Tired of talking about it, don't care if he's guilty or innocent just take the four games and the first round pick.
Not enough. Belichick was clearly involved this time, so another half mil from him too.
