Damn you’re heartless. Guy has a breakout season, has the misfortune to be in the wrong place at the wrong time so he gets shot in the ankle and all you can do make a snide comment?

My first reaction was thinking about the anatomy of an ankle and how much devastation a bullet could do to it. Seems quite likely it could be career threatening or worse.

I admit, my second reaction was relief that it wouldn’t affect the status of our pick, but only in the context of how this is so consistent with the Niners’ injury luck this year. At least this can’t be blamed on that electric power plant.

Until they release further details, there are too many possibilities to say for sure. We know he needed surgery, but that still leaves a range of possibilities (e.g., blood vessels vs muscles vs bones).

Yes. I assume that surgery could be anything that required stitches, or even making sure there is no foreign matter remaining in the wound before putting a bandage on it, so that’s meaningless. But just looking at target cross section for an ankle it seems very high probability it hit bone. He may have gotten lucky and had a .22 bounce off pavement and ding him slightly, or he may have been unlucky and had a 9mm shatter multiple bones. Let’s all pray it was the former not the latter.

Police found a 9mm shell casing and a .45-caliber shell casing near the scene of the shooting.

9 mm (35 cal) or 45 (11.4 mm) are nice big slugs hitting a small ankle. Seems bad for career.
