OT: Falcons vs Broncos Super Bowl

This was the game where a Falcons DB got busted for soliciting prostitution the night before the game.

A friend of Bob Kraft.
I think that was Eugene Robinson.

Elway had lost 3 straight Super Bowls prior to that game. Shanahan got fired by the Raiders and wound up hitting paydirt in Denver.

Shanny, Kubiak and Elway had the offense going on.

I would've liked to have seen how the Broncos with Elway and Davis not tearing his ACL would've fared in '99 against the Titans, Colts or Jaguars. 2000 may have been pushing it, but them going up against the Ravens would've been a great matchup. I think Elway could've gone 2 more years at worst.

They beat the Packers the year prior. That was the begining of Favre continualy finding ways to lose big games.

You're correct.

That was the game where Elway ran for a TD and got crushed at the goal line.

Chandler should have been the MVP. Best player for Denver

IIRC, Atlanta was know for the out patterns that year, and in this game they started with them and were successful. Then, they just abandoned them. Why?

Eugene Robinson - touted as a great guy and a strong family man in the hype-up to that Super Bowl.

Oops.

(edit: Wrong ex-Packer)

Leroy Butler - touted as a great guy and a strong family man in the hype-up to that Super Bowl.

Oops.
It was Eugene Robinson.

IMO the broncos still win but it would’ve been a more entertaining game had the Vikings not choked in the nfc title game.

Ill always hate those falcons for ruining what would’ve been an epic super bowl between denver and Minnesota. Instead one of the most lackluster super bowls ive seen
Moss was a nightmare his rookie year. 1300+ yards, 17 TD & almost 20 per rec. Probably a legit top 10 player his first 7 years including QB.

Minne found "it" that year. Moss was just what they needed and wrecked **** pretty much from start to finish.

Never forgot reading Tony Dungy quotes about how Randy made him change/come up T2 variations. Moss changed the way you play defense. That's incredible imo.

Yeah Moss was unreal, and it was maybe the best WR trio in history. And the RB was Robert Smith who was also a beast. Such a fun team to watch.

I think that was Eugene Robinson.

Earlier in the evening that Robinson was arrested, he received the league’s Bart Starr award, given to the player who best exemplifies character and leadership.

Crappy game... Falcons. We're so overmatched... Add to that I despise the Broncos and everything about them... The players, the dirty hits, the dirty blocking schemes, their home field advantage, and their elitest entitled fans... Will never watch one of their past "glories"

I hear you but I think your blame is slightly misplaced. Blame MIN for not holding on to their lead. Blame Anderson, who had not missed a kick all season, for blowing one at a very makeable range for him, that would have put the game out of reach. The Falcons merely took advantage of the other team's blunders... something every Patriots fan of the last 20 years should know all too well. Lol

Really came down to Gary Anderson missing a field goal after not missing one (or an extra point attempt) all year. Sort of Scott Norwood-ish.

EDIT: @PatsBoy12 beat me to it

On what subhuman moron planet is this one of the NFL’s greatest games?
Network execs: We need a game on that the west coast people can watch. Something without the GD Patriots.

No doubt mnny deserves blame too for choking. I guess part of my blame stems from the fact that the sb was so bad, I mean i dont think the game was in any kind of doubt q2 onwards.

I remember the brutal a** kicking the Pats took from them that year. People didn’t take them seriously and people started paying attention after that game. Why the Falcons keep refusing to listen to fans and going back to those uniforms is baffling.

The late 90’s Broncos were beasts, but the emergence of Rod Smith was what put them over the top. I re-watched their massive upset against the Jaguars in 1996 to remind myself why and they had zero outside threats. Their D also couldn’t make any critical stops late.

It was Neil Smith that put them over the top and they only reason they were able to afford him was by cheating the salary cap. So they get zero credit from me.
