OT: Ex Patriots QB Joe Milton Released

Even though he had a strong pre-season there's inclinations that he wasn't "focused on the right things" in Dallas. Some have said he asked for his release to catch on with a QB needy team too - but while he hasn't signed anywhere yet he's probably a Week 2 pickup so his contract isn't guaranteed.

He has a loaded cannon for an arm and an empty head.

Well, at least he is free and can come back to the Patriots and compete for the starting job since he thinks he can beat out Drake Maye.

No thanks to that idiot... guess He won't be reading his press clippings any time soon. It takes more than a Big Arm Joe and you don't have the other things. He could have stayed here and be a decent back up: but Joe taught he was better than Maye.

This rumour came without evidence from Curran and Perry. So far as I can tell, it's untrue.

In the interviews he gave around the time of this year's Super Bowl Milton's complaint was that the Patriots had kept Jacoby Brissett as the back-up. It was that that made him feel "disrespected", not rivalry with Maye.

That makes a lot more sense.

free agent?

sign the beast????

And for those exact reasons, he'd probably fit right in with the Browns QB culture and would be an improvement on Sanders.

What stands out about Milton to me is that the 3rd string QB is often deemed by fandom as the next best QB - in part because many of them are skilled projects who have flaws, but in his case he really never quite caught on as a potential QB of the future. He doesn't seem to have the leadership skills one needs from a QB period.

He will always be known as the guy’s entitlement in beating out Maye and ruining the Pats draft positioning with his hero ball. Kraft should’ve told Mayo at halftime to bench him.

About the only chance the Patriots had of losing was if they literally pulled fans out of the stands and had them suit up. . . . and maybe not even then.

Well, Jacoby is still working and Joe isn't.

Yeah, I think people forget just how badly the Bills were packing it in that game. I don't think a single starter played.

The NFL is strange sometimes. (I'm not surprised that Milton is out of a job, but that Brissett isn't.)
Brissett runs an offense the way the coaches want, even if he's limited and Milton plays backyard football.

Not sure that any coach wants a qb who hesitates on his reads, stares down his receivers and can't throw accurately. So, as I say, I can see why coaches might not like Milton, but Brissett's survival puzzles me.

Let me put it another way; one guy colors within the lines, one doesn't.

You're arguing which is better. I'm arguing that Jacoby is bad. Let's leave it there.
I'm not. I'm saying that one at least tries to follow the gameplan, while the other doesn't. That's all. Clearly, they are both bad.

I was looking at Arizona's roster boy they're wasting TE Trey McBride. What a productive TE: he deserves better.

Remember when a lot of folks on here were angry about how little they got for him? I am sure Dallas tried to trade him before releasing him. Perhaps the market wasn’t what some thought it was.

It's the Boutte thing all over again. Fans lock in on the good things a player does, whereas NFL staffs look at the entire body of work and don't see enough good plays compared to other players already on their roster or available elsewhere.
