I like @jimnance ...lol but I don't think he's right on that assessment.. he also mentioned Hayes arguably was considered the best CB all time.. he's ranked #49.. and no HOF.. also Willie and bruschi were already clear definitive patriots HOF worthy players before Seymour got there. Willie doesn't make the goal line stop at Indy... we would have gone to Indy instead of them coming to 8 degrees, snowy Foxboro that year in 2003...

Haynes played in the jack Tatum era you could do whatever you wanted downfield.
come on Real... No HoF???

Haynes is in the nfl HoF and the Pats HoF... was the defensive rookie of the year... 9x pro bowler, 2 x all pro, 6x 2nd team all pro... 1x super bowl champ... 1980's all decade team... and the Pats retired his jersey number...

His bona fides stack up there with anyone... people wonder why the Patriots got better in the second half of the 70's? It was Haynes.

Thank you for clarification on this. Becuase I was trying to educate myself on Haynes career and standing in the NFL. It didn't list him being a HOF, so this is the information I was looking for.

just go to youtube, google Mike Haynes Highlights.

guy was awesome.

So I'm confused ty law is a HOF Haynes I don't believe is? But Haynes was better? Seymour absolutely a beast.. and also a HOF... by your logic you sure tippet wasn't better?..
Lol. Haynes is a 1st ballot HOFer.
Need to brush up on yo' history bruh

Absolutely agree. Can someone put up a mike Haynes championship moment? I really want to be educated on him.. I mean I'm 46.. but if he was so much better than law I want to learn more about his game.
He was faster than Law. Better technique.
Better ballhawk. All you need to know about Haynes is that like Deion, qbs would just never throw to whoever he was covering, which was always the #1 receiver

#49? Lmfao. Don't know what lists you're looking at, but I've never seen him ranked lower than #3 and he's ranked #1 most than anyone cept Deion.

Yo,@realfan. Listen man don't get me wrong: I'm as big a Ty Law fan as you.
Great, great player. But let's be real: he wasn't on the same level as Haynes.
That's no disgrace. Very few were.
Deion, Haynes and midget Darrell Green
are the 3 best cbs in NFL history, not necessarily in that order.
Law was awesome- but he was only the 3rd best Pats defensive player in the early dynasty. Seymour is hands down # 1.
I got Rodney at #2.
Ty is # 3. That's not a knock just shows how great those Pats D's were.
And Law was a big- game player. What he did vs. Rams in SB, Steelers in AFCG and Colts in playoffs was incredible. One of the best big- game players ever.
The Colts game in particular was the one that caused Polian et al to go whining to
Goodell and made the game that we all loved less physical.
Just remember that there were great Pats players before 2001.
1. Brady
2. Hannah
3. Gronk
4. Haynes
5. Tippet
6. Law
These are ranked in order of their entire careers, not just their time in New England.
Seymour misses because after he left, he never reached the same level, though he was still very good.
Rodney I'd put at #7
All 6 above are either in the NFL HOF, or will be soon( Brady and Gronk)

Haynes and Law played under the same rules most of their careers
Partially agree, 100% Haynes 80% Law. I forgot Law was here 10 years, age does that I guess. Laws numbers do stack up, Haynes was a way smoother player, Law was more physical. Wish they had recorded PBU back then.

Ty law says.. that's how I got into the HOF...

Aneas Williams said what!!!! Revis said yo man I got a gold jacket too.. champ Bailey says jimman man your crazy! Lol

Lol ok how many championship did Haynes win? I never said he wasn't a good player homie.. championships hold a lot of weight.. your not considering that with law..

#49? Lmfao. Don't know what lists you're looking at, but I've never seen him ranked lower than #3 and he's ranked #1 most than anyone cept Deion.
Ok you got that! Let's just say both penalties offset.. the great Mike Haynes and the great Ty law are both HOF players!! No more debate!

Silly as it may sound but without Scar I wonder how much of this dynasty would have actually happened. Was he actually more important than some players? Wonder if it can be quantified?
This right here….^. Definitely not silly Vic. When Scar retired the first time and we had who was it, Gugs? It was VERY noticeable ie terrible.

Aneas Williams said what!!!! Revis said yo man I got a gold jacket too.. champ Bailey says jimman man your crazy! Lol
Champ Bailey has a strong case to be top 3. Revis is close but he wasn't as great for as long as Deion,Haynes,Green and Bailey. But his best was as good as anybody.
Green is the most amazing story imo.
Absolute shutdown, lock down. He was only 5'8"!! But he locked down everyone including dudes who were 6-2, 6-3.
He was tough as nails and a great tackler as well. Blazing speed, great football IQ.
Green knew how to get physical with wrs to offset any height advantage. To me, he was a combo of Deion and Ty Law.

Absolutely positively agree.. with everything you mentioned... and he played 20 seasons!! 10 NFL season!! Ty law was probably the most physical of them all.. ty just had that natural strength and his leverage was sick!!.. I will tell you a guy we have... already that we will likely be talking about in a year or 2 as the best CB in football is Gonzo. Has everything u want in a lockdown CB..

Aneas Williams said what!!!! Revis said yo man I got a gold jacket too.. champ Bailey says jimman man your crazy! Lol

It's amazing that you can type with your head that far up your rear.
That the poll doesn't include Tippett is preposterous. For the benefit of those who may not understand NFL football was played here before the mid 90's; Haynes and Tippett are the best defensive players to ever take the field for the Pats. Opposing teams game planned around them and as a fan your eyes were on them every snap they were on the field

Big Sey and Law are legit HoF players but they aren't in the same class as Haynes.
Very few are.
