OT Euro 2021 soccer

What is important for me is that this gives Scotland hope for the future with this squad. They worked hard for the result....a draw !!!!

But....as a pundit said "they did not win". Also this was an off night for England who as we know have a star studded team , but they could not get going for whatever reason. Quite a few players were not playing to their ability , seemed to be a lack of spark.

Anyway for England better to have a performance like this now and not later in the tournament.

Only a tie for France...

You're kinder about England than I am.

I thought this really exposed their weaknesses: no drive going forward from the fullbacks/wingbacks, no energy and willingness to stress the defence from Kane, no ability to carry the ball or finish from Sterling. He basically looked sad. Oh, and worst of all, no response from the manager. If it would have been me, I'd have pulled Sterling and Kane for Rashford and Grealish at half-time. It doesn't matter that they are senior players: this is a tournament and, if you're going to get anywhere, you have to deal with what's in front of you. As it is, he substituted Foden, who, young though he is, was full of skill and energy in contrast to his elders.

Scotland fought, but it wasn't just hard work. All of them looked confident on the ball and made themselves available. And the traditional aerial attack has its uses even nowadays. What's not quite clear is if that deliberately aggressive style will get them in trouble with another referee.

I'll be really interested in their match against Croatia. A friend of mine knows Steve Clarke and says that he's a good guy. I'm happy for him.

That was a great Portugal/Germany game

Yes, a really good game. I couldn't watch the first half-hour, but the rest had energy and quality all the way through.

I don't like Portugal (the football team) and they confirmed it by throwing themselves to the ground in agony every time they were touched, but their goals were excellent. And Renato Sanches's shot that came off the post would have been a stunning goal if it were 6 inches to the right. As for the Germans, they were unrecognizable from the game against France. Although two of their goals were own goals, they would probably have scored if the defenders hadn't.

Yo I put 100 your England team yesterday they let me down. What's the general feeling on the English team so far?

No idea of the general feeling -- I'm in the U.S. But I'd bet that they're in the over-optimism-being-replaced-by-angry-blame-of-the-manager phase. Not that that's wrong. I'd feel more optimistic about England if Marcelo Bielsa was managing them. Although Germany pulled themselves together after a bad game, so it might happen to England too.

England are a funny nation when it comes to football.

They always have good/great players, generally players who are passionate about playing for their country and there rarely seems to be divisions in their squads like the Dutch and french seem to often deal with…….and yet they have still only won 1 major tournament and in fact only ever been to 1 final. It’s actually pathetic how bad they have underachieved.

Question I don't know since I'm a casual fan at best: Has any other national head coach stayed in the position even close to what Low has done?

the only one I can think of is Tabarez at Uruguay…..he’s done an incredible job with Uruguay at times and has been in the job since 2006 - Same as Lo?e.

Yes. There are a lot of reasons, but, once they have got a history like that, it feeds off itself.

Yeah to be fair to the England teams they usually have to deal with huge pressure and expectation…..which can’t be easy.

they have also been unlucky a couple of times with semi-final penalty defeats but for the talent they have and the player pool they choose from they really should have been to several finals. Player for player they shouldn’t be far off the success the likes of Germany, Italy, Spain and France have had……but they should be at least on a par with Netherlands, Portugal, Croatia, Denmark, Czechs in the last 30 years!

Nice to see Bernardeschi Belotti and Chiesa start

Verratti back too

R.i.p. Giampiero Boniperti...

I wonder why only 2 games on a Sunday

Italy managed well this game too...

25 on 26 players have been on the field in these 3 winning games

Good depth...

Germany doesn’t have the players they used to have who were tournament players through and trough. The Sane‘s;Gnabry;Werner of the world are zero game changers on this level. They are not in shape not being used right and neither they are able to fight for 90 minutes. It is a shame to watch and a lot of guys I know have zero EM feeling for this team and don’t follow it much. The German national soccer team lost a lot of fans in the last years
Congratulations, that fits right in with the game day thread/fire BB crowd on here.

I am neither team brady nor team BB. I never said anything about firing BB, not even BB on the hot seat if we don't perform this season. This makes not much sense sorry. Conclusions from my soccer opinion to the pats have nothing in common what so ever. I barely post negative stuff. Pls read more posts from me before you draw conclusions like that thanks

So the media hyped star of the Scottish team Billy Gilmour has managed to get tested positive for covid and will have to self isolate for 10 days .....what a joke.

Oh no! Was he out on the town with Phil Foden?
