How hard would it be to replace this with an expanded playoff?

Either way looks like a fun Utah Oregon game. Upset candidate

So, uh, how do you determine who the conference champions are?

I’d say most if not nearly all of the conference champions in 2019 aren’t in doubt already. Don’t need a “championship” game beatdown to figure out who the champ is. Like Clemson in the ACC... nobody else is close.

Yikes Utah. Now there’s a team that fattened up on a weak schedule and shouldn’t be ranked where they are.

im not sure if you're saying what im saying here, but Clemson is the only shoe in conference champion, i wouldn't be surprised if the rest were upsets

Ohio State beat up Wisconsin earlier in the year 38-7 and are favored by 16.5 this time around. Hard to see Wisconsin making a game out of it, but stranger things have happened.

Not always, though. Sometimes these are the best games. Georgia would give LSU a run for their money if they weren’t limping into this game. I think you can, and should, keep the conference championships while still expanding the playoff.

I’d be shocked if Wisconsin upsets OSU. I think the Buckeyes are going to curb stomp them again. Even though the final score wasn’t close, I throughly enjoyed Oregon/Utah last night. That was an physical, old school style game.

Oklahoma is going to commit rape against Baylor. Lamb already looks like he’s going to have a monster game.

wisconsin is way overrated. Ohio state will bully them again

Agreed I'm on them at 16.5, Baylor +9.5 & Cinci +10.

So after watching Herbert these past few years it's obvious w/e NFL team takes him will have a very different offense than this dink/dunk ****. Kid has plenty of arm talent but displayed little running Oregon's. I mean plenty of throws to back that up but just not on display as much as it should have been.
Doesn't hurt playing behind arguably the best OL in the country as well. Wouldn't mind if a few of them ended up here in the next few year's.

Too bad VT Hokies season is over and they’re not playing at home this weekend. Would be so much fun to be in the crowd for that Enter Sandman entrance

I wonder what a “16v1” game would look like. OSU vs Bowling Green? Lol

If there was an expanded playoff I can’t see a UMBC style upset happen in football in our lifetime.

The system is perfect as is in my opinion. I hope it stays at4 I feel like every year there’s maybe 4-5 teams max that are national title worthy.

I like 8. Recently 4 vs 5 has been a tough call with 5 being a legit candidate (the year OSU was shunned after winning big 10 ccg for bama would didn’t even qualify for sec ccg is one example)
You could make the same argument with 8 vs 9 but I think leaving out 5 often leaves out a legit championship contender while choosing between 8 and 9 is picking the best of long shots.
Plus with 8 you can do automatic berth for the 5 major conf champions and 3 at large.

Finish it, Oklahoma! I hope they stick it in Saban’s face in the playoff.

Ohio state didn’t deserve to get in over Bama that year imo. Ohio state wasn’t national title quality and their resume was not as good. They lost by 31 to an unranked iowa and by 15 at home to OU.

Conference championships are a stated criteria. But if you want to argue they don’t then explain OSU in 16 and 18

a stated criteria sure but they aren’t automatic qualifiers. They got in the 2016 playoff and got embarrassed. They simply weren’t that good last year and got blown out by Purdue. Definitely not better than a 2 loss Georgia.
