OT - Celtics to trade #1 overall pick?

More than anything I was interjecting what kind of player(s) to win a title are required.
Yeah he's def the guy we'd need. Wonder if we could get him for both 2018 picks come next off season and keep Brown and Tatum/Jackson/Lonzo/whoever.

I dunna know. As you say it's unrealistic Danny trades for him but I gotta think the starting asking price is 3 #1s in the top 5 plus a bunch of expiring contracts.

I think those last two years it'll get a lot realer. Especially if Boogie becomes a problem and gets extended and pushes AD out. Nobody ever seems to get as big of a haul as people expect. If we get two top 5 picks that may do it. Not sure anybody else can beat that haul.

Sign Hayward, trade non high picks for George rental, offer two top 5 picks for Davis and Horford to match salaries next off season. Woah.

Jimmy Butler rumor mill going strong again as of today. What is the obsession with Butler from Ainge??? I'm not a huge NBA fan but anytime I've watched this guy I am not impressed one bit, please explain?????????

Interesting one of my buddies who's huge in basketball would think Butlers a stud another friend who loves basketball thinks he's not a top 20 player I don't know.

He's great but, he's not a superstar. Until we have our super star MVP calibre guy we don't need him. Butler will have one year left next off season and should have a lot lower trade value. Wait til then and try for him if we get Davis.

I don't think they get Davis but i'd be amazed. Looking objectively at this trade this is what I think. Fultz is going to be a good player but not franchise changing. This year the #1 pick is good but not "the guy" IMO. So I don't mind taking those assets and moving them forward. So they get a good player this year and a chance for a good player next year or "the guy" in 2019. Personally I hope the pick gets pushed to 2019 as that year you really have a good chance to get a franchise changing player.

It is rare you get a Lebron or Durant or Curry at the #2 pick so even if they get that pick honestly I will just shrug. I want a chance to get the #1 pick. Though if you trade Fultz and get this years #3 and next years #2 that is probably better than just getting him but if they get #5 next year I will feel they missed a chance. Generally the #5 or #4 and even #3 picks are not super meaningful in and of themselves. They are great to fill out your team but they don't tend to give you the guy who puts you over the top.

Paul George is going to Cleveland, it seems.

I heard an interview with Wyc Grousbeck and he tipped his hand. The Celtics know they can't compete with Cleveland or Golden State at this time. If they trade now, I expect it will be for a younger player with a lot of valuable years ahead - like Anthony Davis.

I imagine Anthony Davis will be available when NO's current experiment of pairing him with Cousins blows up and they need a fresh start. We're talking February 2018 trade deadline maybe.

I don't see us wasting these plum draft picks on PG or Butler before then. PG already said he's heading to LAL. Butler doesn't move the needle and Chicago's demands are so astronomical that they're a complete non-starter to any trade discussion.

I wouldn't give much more than a bag of balls for Paul George (unless I am Cleveland). If Danny trades for him, I will lose all respect I had for him entirely.

I'm pretty certain that Ainge would not trade anything significant for PG if there was even a remote possibility of him bailing for LAL the next season (which he already claims he's going to).

I really can't. I can only assume that the people calling for these overpays for Butler are Bulls fans who know that their franchise will be stuck in the mud for many years unless they can somehow fleece us in a Butler trade.

Marvin Bagley is being touted as one of the best to come out in a while. I'd love to get get the 2019 1st pick for that fact alone. I hope we get Sacramento's pick instead of LAL for a shot (however low the chances are) at No. 1.
Next year's draft is looking good but I'd take Bagley right now if I could instead of any of next years' prospects. We already have Brooklyn's pick so that's a lotto lock.

Having lots of first-round picks isn't nearly as valuable in the NBA as in the NFL. There is a lot more player performance variation at the top of the NBA draft than the NFL draft. You would much rather have the #1 overall than five first-round picks between 10 and 20.

Trading away the #1 overall, with a player perceived to be a potential star, is extremely risky. The LA Laker pick cannot be the #1 overall, per ESPN. So they are trading the #1 overall for #3 and another high, but not top, pick.

In NFL comparison, would you rather have one Peyton Manning (#1 overall) or two Ryan Leaf's?

It's great that they have two likely lottery picks next season in Brooklyn and LA, but they already had the Brooklyn pick.

There is probably some benefit in pushing the assets out. With Durant in Golden State, it looks like they have a solid five-year window to dominate. If you could trade a #1 overall for a certain #1 overall in three years, it might make sense to try to load up for a run when the GS stars are in their mid-30's.

It certainly does give the Celtics more ammunition to compete and be an exciting team.

Fultz, with his "dad bod", is still physical match with the best in the NBA. Philly is apparently banking on him, and time will obviously tell the tale on that. But, if Fultz can play, and Embid can stay healthy, Boston just paved the way for a rival to get a whole lot better.

How do you know that? We have college film on him against the Yale Bulldogs playing against guys who will be working for Goldman Sachs next year (he LOST against them).

Fox and Smith look quick, athletic, and have faced real competition.

Fultz has a better outside shot......Jackson is a better defender......both are pretty nifty going to the basket....both have a seemingly slow release for their outside shot......I don't have a problem turning fultz into jackson and a lottery pick next year

jackson is less redundant with who the celts already have........

either guy makes thomas more expendable.......jackson would make rozier more of an heir apparent at the 1......

Agreed. I'm rooting for LA to do well this year. Hoping the kings continue to stink for a few more years

Lonzo Ball is 6'6 with elite court vision and passing skills. Players like that don't grow on trees.

I expect Ball is going to be drafted by the LAL and we take Jackson but if LAL unexpectedly takes Jackson, we should be glad to get Ball. I don't care at all about his dad getting into shouting matches with Stephen A. Myth about nonsense over on BSPN.

Supposedly Fultz wasn't as explosive as the Celtics had hoped he would be in his workout. Jackson seems to be the best bet after Fultz, but does have some character concerns...he seems like a real douche.

From a risk perspective, sure, if you are convinced that George wants to go to LA (and he's making that pretty clear that it is his dream destination).

But if, up front, you could get him to commit to a long-term deal, then George is so much more valuable than Butler that it is silly. There is a reason that every single Cavs-Pacers playoff game (or previously Heat-Pacers game) is close, even when the Pacers roster stinks to high heaven. George contains Lebron better than anyone else, with his combination of length, quickness, unexpected strength for a skinny guy, and then offensive skills to make up for what Lebron is still able to get.
