OT: Cards release Michael Floyd

You were talking out of your ass. Instead of just admitting that, or just letting it drop, you've continued talking out of your ass, even when I've demonstrated that you're still talking out of your ass. Laisse tomber.

Whalen would have just one extra week to learn the offense, so... no, it's not a valid reason, in general. Now, if you're opining that Michael Floyd, specifically, will be unable to grasp the offense, the obvious response to that is "That evaluation is one the team will have to make".

And, for the record, imo, the biggest Floyd question is probably "His catch rate is below 50% this year. Is that something Cardinals related, or is it about Floyd?"
Yeah, thinking bringing in drunk who likes to sleep at stop lights at 2 in the morning and thinking it would be a bad message to send and a distraction right now is talking out of my ass. Gotcha

Whalen IMO was brought in for multiple reasons. IMO he was brought in for his ST ability and as an emergency fill in should something happen to Edelman now that DA is down. I actually respect the Cards for doing what they did.

More than the DUI, the Cardinals were most likely not going to resign him this off season as I suspect they will use the resources on Chandler Jones and maybe Campbell. There are even rumors that they may not sign Calais. Thus releasing him in a lost season, makes them look like they are being proactive, but it costs them nothing (other than maybe a compensatory pick? I do not know how that would have worked with them).

They have been 'disappointed' with his production this year. He was supposed to be the heir to Larry Fitzgerald. Just like the entire Cardinals team has underachieved this year so has Floyd. He has been completely absent 1 week, and then can have a couple TD 100+ yard game next.

With that being said, IF he makes it to the Patriots, its a no brainer to consider him. He would be incredible depth if we suffer another WR injury. They guy is talented, but not consistent. He was a big part of why the Cardinals were so explosive offensive last year. Change in scenery may be all he needs.

The DUI is another issue, and I do not know how the NFL will handle things. But knowing the way the NFL works, if the Pats do pick him up, they probably suspend him 4 games the day before the post season starts to make sure he does not help the Pats. At the same time, every other playoff team could pick him up, just so the Pats do not.

It rained whenever the ball was thrown to him.

Floyd was one of my favorite pre-draft prospects. I still want him. Our team is mature and know to worry about doing their own job. I think they know by now they don't have a say in roster decisions and are to just bottle any negative emotions.

Not being able to pick up the offense is a valid reason and is worth addressing IMO. I believe some other posters have addressed it in this thread.
Sorry, I didn't mean to take a side in your back and forth, nor did I realize that it had already been addressed, but since you brought it up...

I would be fairly surprised to see Floyd come here in this particular system and contribute much of anything at this point in the season. Even poor Austin Collie, who had prior experience in a similar system and just needed to learn the verbiage wasn't seeing many opportunities, and that 2013 group of WRs was piss poor. To take it one step further, there were multiple reports claiming that Collie was the first one there and the last one to leave every day in his attempt to learn the offense.

Agree, I think your post is spot on.

won't get past the jets. They are ready to move on from Brandon Marshall.

Are you actually suggesting that he'd be able to come here and pick up our system this year? He'd contribute very little with minimal opportunities. Look no further than some of our other emergency WR signings.

Next year though...that'd be nice.

I was not suggesting he would contribute, I was only saying that the fact the NFL can take their sweet time determining his suspension, which will be four games, he can appeal but it will be the quickest "NO" ever...I agree maybe contribute next year but so many if's, contracts, roster spot, when is he availble who knows. There is no question in my mind that if NE grabbed him the nfl would do everything to screw the pats over as long as they can. LOL

At 6'3" 220, he could help in the red zone and give the team another dynamic and something else for other teams to worry about. He can also provide insurance if one of our receivers gets injured. I doubt he'll make it through waivers though.

If he clears, hell yeah. He would definitely make noise in this offense.

Can someone explain to me why this guy isn't getting the Josh Gordon treatment ?

You mean in terms of being suspended? The punishment is different for DUI than it is for failing tests for substances.

Would not shock me if a team like the giants claim him.

I wonder if Cleveland is desperate enough for a win that they actually claim him...

I hope they do. Maybe if they start game planning right now, they can give Pittsburgh a competitive game in week 17.

To be honest, I think we've seen many worse teams over the years despite that awful record. They really need a QB.

I don't think he gets out of the first ten teams in the waiver wire, unless there's more to it than we don't know about.

It could be very beneficial for a team to buy low right now in terms of an extension. After all, he was set to hit free agency this spring.

Those ten are already playing for next year. Why give reps to a guy who will be a fa? Nothing to gain for those teams. Plenty to gain for a contender at least potentially.

Although its awfully tempting Floyd is an obvious idiot who has a drinking problem: its said First Round Talent 8th Round character. He was set to be the #1 WR in FA in a weak year now he just cost himself alot of $$$$. Alot of Teams are adopting the Patriot way of moving on from good players with character concerns. Also our Offense is difficult to grasp without a Training camp. On paper Floyd looks better than Whalen but the games are not played on paper and I feel in a pinch Whalen could perform well in the slot. Remember if the Patriots need a Big WR they could always re-sign Aaron Dropson.

If I'm a Browns fan, that would piss me off. What possible difference could one win make? You're not going to the playoffs with that one win and you don't win a trophy with it. Stay winless and solidify the #1 overall pick and either use it or entertain trade offers for a king's ransom.

Anyway, when will we know if Floyd has cleared waivers?
