OT: Bills Fans Are Done with McDermott

I think Welker mentioned in his A Football Life episode that he took the Broncos' offer back to the Patriots to see if they'd match but they had already moved on. Welker was as far as I recall the classical case of Belichick / Patriots setting a max value for a FA and then moving on to the next target (in this case Amendola) once it became clear that the FA wouldn't take the offer.

The issue with Welker already started back during the 2011 season when the Patriots offered him an extension of 2 years at 16 million guaranteed but he turned that down as he wanted a longer deal. In the end he played 2012 on the franchise tag for 9.5 million, before signing a 2 year deal worth 12 million with the Broncos. The Patriots stance of not giving him a 3 year extension at that (or similar to that) AAV in 2011 was probably justified considering how he fell off in 2014 (although the big elephant in the room of course is how much Manning putting him in harm's way contributed to that), although it potentially cost the team a Super Bowl appearance in 2013 (however, I don't think they beat the Seahawks without Gronk assuming in this scenario he still gets taken out by T.J. Ward).

Ultimately, however, it worked out for the Patriots as his departure enabled Edelman to step up, while Amendola - even though he never truly lived up to the deal he was signed to - was a clutch player for 3 Super Bowl bound teams.
Nice post clarifying the detail. One bit of context is that WW was already having issues with concussions while on the Pats. This helped set the amount the Pats were going to pay and set him up for some pretty scary times in Denver.

Reid is 66 pounds overweight and getting fatter by the week.

Kelce is gone after this season and running off with Taylor Swift. Chris Jones will get more money elsewhere. Changes are coming.
We heard same thing after Hill left, yet here they are. We have to face the facts, Reid-Mahomes is the 2020s version of BB-Brady during the dynasty. Obviously, a lot needs to happen, but until somebody knocks them out they remain Kings of the mountain.

Ugh!!!!

& Co refers to this team, not anything else. So don't try and twist it to suit your petty agenda. They own that win/loss record.

You can't separate out the wins from the losses and say the wins are this guy and the losses belong to that guy..
I'm not separating wins from loses. The discussion was about Bill's loses. You implied Bill w/ Brady had 121 loses. That's just not the case. And yes, Brady absolutely owns every one of the 75 loses he had in NE.

Brady w/ Bill: 75 loses (.769%) incl. playoffs
Brady w/o Bill: 20 loses (.649%) incl. playoffs

Pretty sure that's an older photo of Reid. He definitely lost weight. Still obese but at least he is trying. Not sure what is worse another Harbaugh winning a Championship or the Chefs?
Or 49ers getting #6. I'm rooting for the Lions.

whats your point?

Besides trying to remove what Bill & Brady accomplished together from BB's record?

I remember we all thought WW would get more and BB was lowballing him, as it turned out he gave him a fair offer.

Except the Reid retirement rumors are real.

Also sounds like Micah Hyde is done in Buffalo. This looks like a goodbye.

If he wasn't 33 years old and injured I'd say sign the beast.

The Bills shut the Chiefs hot water off after the game.

Drunk Bills fans were pelting Mahomes with snowballs post game.

Sounds like McDermott is staying in Buffalo.
It would be crazy to fire him. He had a badly injured defense. The offense only punted twice. And they absolutely throttled the Miami Dolphins offense twice this season.

You can make an argument that the season lowlight was not being able to overcome the Patriots defense.

Micah Hyde retired, and Im sure Jordan Poyer is not far behind. They need to rebuild their entire defensive backfield from scratch. Essentially, they only have one player back there now, Tauron Johnson.

Nah, the lowlight was overcoming the Patriots defense in a furious comeback, only to let McCorkle get his only Game-Winning Drive of his career.

Granted Buffalo had injuries,

That's putting it lightly.

Bills had FIVE defensive starters out. Starting CB (Tre White), Starting CB (Benford), Starting LB (Milano), Starting LB (Bernard), Starting DT (Phillips).

That's nearly HALF of the starting defense out.

but when has he ever slowed down KC?

Well, the Bills have beaten KC in 2 of the previous 3 games before Sunday...

great receiver in his own right.

still doesn't change my mind
Hard to argue on Wes.. there. Was also another guy.. rhymes with toss...

Bills fans will always have no shortage of excuses.

The Chiefs lost Thuney and Willie Gay, but that dont matter. Sean Mcdermott is a choker just like Mike Tomlin. 3 straight Division losses, 2 Wildcard losses and 1 Conference loss.

Wow, a neutral zone infraction on KC saved the Bills before this game setting up a KC showdown in Buffalo.

I have little doubt that Buffalo would at least make it to the Super Bowl with Belichick or Vrabel.

White and Milano were IRed in October.

Love the player. One of the better safeties to play in the NFL.

People want to say it was all Brady but forget that he had a lot of mediocre games in the playoffs that should have ended our season but the team still pulled it out

Bill or Tom????!!!

Remember the game in San Diego where he threw an interception late in the 4th, that was game until Troy Brown ripped the ball away from the San Diego player who intercepted and was running the ball back and gave him a new life, to his credit he took advantage of it but that was on game he had some help.
