OT: Big Ben to Retire

Huh... Oh well, he had a smashing career...

Call me a cynic, but I'm of the opinion that word leaked out so he can be feted in the remaining games

he does this everytime hes on the hot seat. Did the same thing after the 2016 afcc when people were critiquing his effort in that game where he “contemplated his future” (that was 5 years ago so we know how legit THAT was). Then early 2017 when he stunk it up against jville early in the year he gave more hints. Dudes ego is right up there with favre

I'll wait to hear it from him via official announcement...
Until then...

Retirement keeps flirting with Ben and Ben keeps telling it no. But retirement doesn't take no for an answer and keeps pressing onto Ben. Ben says NO again louder and more forcefully but it's no use. Retirement won't take no for an answer.

Hopefully his career ends up on on the bench as Steelers give his replacement some playing time as Steelers fall out of the playoff chase.

I’d love to write some meaningless tribute that he will never see praising the end of a great career, but he’s a terrible person playing for disreputable franchise. Good riddance is the best that I can muster.

Tomlin wasted Bens career.

Under Tomlins guidance, the Steelers have lost in the post season every way possible. In Tomlins 2nd season as Pittsburgh HC, he won the Super Bowl in 2008 with basically Bill Cowhers team.

2007 - Lost the Wildcard
2008 - Won the Superbowl - If you recall, it was the game where they screwed Mike Holgrem the Seahawks coach.
2009 - Missed the post season
2010 - Lost the Super Bowl
2011 - Lost the Wildcard
2012 - Missed the post season
2013 - Missed the post season
2014 - Lost the Wildcard
2015 - Lost the Division
2016 - Lost the Conference
2017 - Lost the Division - 13 and 3 with homefield and the Jaguars showed up and throttled Pittsburgh.
2018 - Missed the post season
2019 - Missed the post season
2020 - Lost the Wildcard

Ben Big is a QB who will likely go into the HOF without a 2:1 TD/Int ratio. In this day and age that is pretty bad. Also he wasn't particularly good in the playoffs either with 34 TDs and 28 Ints. Also he had the single worst SB win of any QB in modern NFL history. His other super bowl win was against one of the worst Ds in super bowl history and he needed a pick 6 to do it. Overall he fairly massively overachieved considering his level of play. Not as much as Eli, but he is clearly a case of a QB who found himself in a good spot. Not to say he was bad, but on a lesser team with lesser talent he would achieve nothing or very little. It's fair to say that the Steelers QB from 2004-2021 played with best 52 around him of any QB and was in the luckiest spot in the NFL overall. I think no other QB in that time period overall found themselves with more help as consistently from all 3 phases.

Good riddance.

Equally ugly as much on the inside as he is on the outside.

Ben has ownership of those results. They are very very consistent with his talent level and play. No one else to blame.

Wrong

Tomlin is a very lax HC and let the inmates run the asylum. Furthermore, Tomlin picked Coordinators that were volatile like Todd Haley. The losing lies squarely at Tomlins feet, but you can make up excuses as why Tomlin did not have his teams ready in the post season.
