I’m afraid just one more win this season could be enough for another scoop of Krafts’s Mayo.
Ive read in the last week that kraft is going to give mayo two years, if kraft doesn't see major improvements next years than he'll move on, they'll be a coaching change. i wish i could remember what sports writer wrote the piece but it was someone that has covered the pats for years.

This is the off season to make the move. With so many teams looking for new coaches, Ben Johnson and others will be off the market. Kraft should pull the trigger after this season if there is no improvement. Wolf can be given one more year even though last offseason he didn’t do much. He might just surprise us. I think Mayo has very little upside so why waste another year.

I’m afraid another year of this staff will be a waste and so many offensive minded head coaches in this hiring cycle.

I’d consider Joe Brady as well.

The reasons i can think of are that there are head coaches out there like dan campbell, and kyle shannahan that were terrible first year coaches that got it together, and i know there are a few more that fall into this category. And it takes time to implement their ideas. But after all these weeks i don't think mayo falls into this category, he doesn't even get basic decisions right. Decisions that posters on here would have gotten correct like in ot taking the wind.for example.

His time was overdue anyways and the horrible clock management that's pretty common around the NFL, just gave the Bears a reason to finally cut the cord.

No way is Kraft going to fire Mayo after one season, it "wouldn't look good," which is antithetical to The Scatback's current primary objective.

If the jacket is on its way this time next season, then Mayo will be "Dead Man Walking" unless he shocks us all and has this thing moving in the right direction. For me that would mean we are seeing good development of young players in multiple position groups, especially OL, and we have a significant reduction in the stupid crap we've been witnessing with the penalties and other mental mistakes that are coming by the bushel every game. Based on what I've seen so far from Mayo, I expect absolutely no such things under his "leadership."

The biggest indictment of Mayo is how badly the defense has played. After all, we were told numerous times that he was in the lead when it came to game planning last season. I'm not ready to put all the blame on Covington, not that he hasn't sucked too but I think Mayo sucks at his job more than Covington sucks at his job.

Ben Johnson isn't coming here this year. Even if we fired Mayo, we have one of the least talented squads of any of the openings and we just showed that we will only give a coach one year to course correct with this mess.

The only way the Pats get him is if he stays put this season, next season the Pats add some good talent, and Mayo can't win and it's viewed as primarily a coaching problem and we get rid of him.

For better or worse, getting rid of Mayo now unless he does something insane, would just make us look less stable and we'd be looking for another coach that needs to prove it.

So we need to hope Detroit loses first round of the playoffs and he feels he has unfinished business.

2 seasons? Maybe. He's gotta show improvement. I don't think they'll fire him after Y1 unless he has an Eberflus type moment. Y2, they need to be better all the way around: record, situational awareness, overall preparedness, better control of locker room, all of it. If he's bumbling along Y2 like this year, he's done IMO.
Serious question, is not knowing the direction of the wind in overtime an Eberflus moment? Sure it doesn’t look as bad on television but I’d argue it’s worse from a coaching standpoint. Yesterday is more on Williams. He took forever. Once the clock got to five it was the last play anyway not defending the Bears ineptitude but ours is every bit as bad if not worse.

He's here, try to make the best of it, no coach could too much better with team we're fielding.
he's right though.

and so are you. He's here, and we will have to make the best of it.

but i disagree that no coach could do much better. the coaching on this team leaves a lot to be desired.

Re: firing Mayo:

1. Mayo was ALWAYS going to get at least 2 if not 3 years to make his case.
- I would even tend to argue that so long the coach shows organizational, talent acquisition, & tactical improvementeach year (even if record doesn’t reflect it); giving him less than 3-4 years is simply „being the Jesters“.

2. I find ALL this wishing for the next greatest Off Coord as next head coach a little amusing. I mean how many FIRST-Time coaches win a SB? (2? Tomlin-McKay). And tomlin‘s 1st was a freakin GotoHell rigged referee gift.

- How many first-timers even get there within first 3-4 seasons.
- The GOAT didn’t get one til 2d go-round.
-Carroll his 2d nfl team also with college HC in between.
- Reid didn’t win it til 2d go-round w KC.
- horrible coaches (ex: arians) were also on 2d gig.

IMO Lesson Learned: If you want better odds when you do fire Mayo: look to retread types (like Vrabel or Flores).

[{edit} or ( just kidding) Patricia]

You really think it's Wolf's call?

I doubt it. Kraft hired him, Kraft will have to fire him. Then he should let Wolf pick the next coach. If you are going to be responsible for the team then you need to have the authority to be responsible for it.

I really hope that during the second year where the ****s working like a well oiled machine, Thunderdick has a Thunderstroke and that’s the end of him. Hopefully little Kraft does t try and take over and impart **** that screw up the formula they’re using then and causes everyone to abandon ship…truly the worst scenario I can imagine. Alls going great, daddy moneybags croaks, kiddy moneybags wants to impart his “wisdom” and ****s everything up. Eventually selling to some Russian Oligarch family…

Matt Eberflus' worst decision was hiring Shane Waldron to be his OC.

That said, there is no way any HC should retain his job after that final minute of clock mismanagement.

He's here, try to make the best of it, no coach could too much better with team we're fielding.

Even with this roster, we'd have two, perhaps three more wins in the hands of competent coaching. The lapses/lack of adjustments defensively are most alarming.
