OT: Aldon Smith Dead at 36

Really tragic. So much talent, but if you can take care of what's upstairs, little else matters.
It’s true. Sometimes we - the public - can’t comprehend when something goes awry because “he / she had it all”…. But troubles don’t care if you are talented. It’s a sad truth.

Gotta wonder too about whether or not having it all is too much....I'm sure it is for some.... RIP...

CTE. One of those cases where you could see it happening in real time.

This is why I'll never begrudge any player for trying to get every single last cent they can from these ghoul nepo-baby owners.

I have little doubt it's going to be some type of suicide.
NFL won't release the cause of death...that's literally the only reason they wouldn't do that.

(Also it's kinda known, it will get out despite the attempt at a blackout)

I think this is absolutely the case. Having that much attention and money is problematic at pretty much any age, but having it as a kid/ young adult can lead to serious excess, and serious mental and physical health issues.

Rip. Prayers for the family.

One of the most interesting draft discussions ever on this board. There was only basically 1 full season and a partial season to go off to analyze him. Some swore by prototypical size, raw technique and power while others were more cautious.

At any rate, came out the gates in San Francisco like a beast. Would of had one hell of a career and life if not for some poor decisions and battles with mental illness. We have a long way to go as a country as for how we treat that. Not sure what the answer is.

Always sad to see someone so young go that soon.

Whenever the media says the dreaded words "no cause of death revealed" or "no foul play" it's usually self inflicted by accident (overdose) or on purpose. The only info we have now is that he died suddenly at a friends house. I don't believe it's "natural causes" as I can't stand when that term loosely is thrown around. He's known to have had drug and alcohol problems, so I think it had something to do with that.

He was a terror for the 49ers for two seasons before his problems started.

Details from his friend make it seem likely it was an inadvertent OD or possibly a physiological event likely rooted in past substance abuse

Circumstances make it seem unlikely to have been intentional.

Former 49ers LB Aldon Smith was delivering pizzas to a charity for homeless before being discovered unresponsive

RIP. I hope his soul finds the peace in the hereafter that his demons wouldn't let him discover here

  • Smith's final act was a display of kindness. Just hours before he died, Smith helped deliver some pizzas to a local charity, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Smith was with a friend, Amir Shirazi, on the day of his death. According to Shirazi, the two stopped at a gas station after delivering the pizzas and then made a pitstop at Shirazi's house in Los Gatos, California. Shirazi ran inside his house, and when he got back out, Smith was slumped over in the car. "He was perfectly fine an hour before," Shirazi told the Chronicle. "I came out and he was basically dead in my front seat. I'm just in shock."
