It’s not a « problem » if Hill is the QB and Brees is elsewhere.

They will at least pay 11m for him next year. And that is the best case where he was cut/traded with the 6/1 designation. So even if the QB is Hill the position will cost them at least 27m. And as of right now they are about 77M over the cap for next year.

Making two bold predictions: Sanu cut and neither kicker makes the team. Bill will claim a kicker off waivers.

We are in perfect position to wait it out and see what his market turns into. If there is a lack of interest pounce with a cheap deal.

With Michel, Miller, Harris, Burkhead and White, do they need another RB?

Even really impactful RBs don't have much leverage these days. Kamara's timing mashes incredibly bad with the Saints' cap situation. Or maybe he just wanted to force a trade to another team that has the budget and willingness to pay him market value.

How much of Michael Thomas's success can be attributed to teams having to account for Kamara? Genuinely asking, because those two are such powerful weapons, they have to open this up for each other, right?

None.

As so many things in life when you boil it down football is a math problem. The more attention you have to pay to multiple players the smaller the margin of error on every play. So while Michael Thomas by himself is pretty damn great at what he does, having teammates that require extra attention makes his life definitely easier.

In other words, they are both multipliers for each other while still being great by themselves.

All due respect this isn't answering the question. Just saying something that sounds nice.

The question as I took it was does AK open things up for MT. Of course its nice to have other great players but that's not explaining anything. Again just saying the obvious.

That seems a bit too absolute, but I'll take your word for it.
I'll give you a real answer.

It's not if you know the position, who's defending who & which positions effect each other.

1)If anything RB/TE might help each other out. They run very similar routes for the most part, attack the same area of the field for the most part and are defended by the same group's for the most part. If you look at any heat maps of route running you'll see this hold up.

2)We've seen Thomas without Kamara and he's still a 100/1400 player in that offense. We actually saw him put up #'s without Brees if I'm not mistaken.

3)Saints aren't worried about losing AK. They'll roll with Murray, Hill and figure it out and Thomas will still put up big #'s. If they're not worried I'm not.

Does it help having great players at multiple spots, sure. But Bell isn't opening up things for Brown. Zeke isn't opening up thing for Cooper and same with AK & MT. If anything having a great WR helps them a lot more.

I appreciate the nuanced breakdown, that makes it plain as day. So - and this is a real Q - how does Lamar Jackson's presence open the entire damn field up?

Better yet, I think to get the answer I'm seeking: how does a QB with the threat of running open the field up for skill positions?

I've always been under the impression (which I'm willing to accept isn't correct) that those who actually run separate routes on different parts of the field open others up. I guess my logic was that, if you have a bunch of people who get their money over the middle of the field, a defense would just clog it and dare them to throw outside to options that aren't as favorable.

Again, thanks for the breakdown.
