that's wrong. Gonzo was manned on Metcalf on the horrible blown coverage TD play. I know Dugger took responsibility for the call, but if you watch the play, there's no safety help, and Gonzo just let him go while biting on Geno's eyes to the flat. Even if the safeties messed up the backend, he was still covering Metcalf on that play and the "target" should account for him.
I'm not saying Gonzo is bad. But it was probably good to scare him and realize there's no plays off.

I really believe that if they start Maye, they are going to be worse for it in the short term. Brissett, even with his limitations, doesn't turn the ball over. Rookies do. It's just the nature of the beast.

I think with Brissett, they are going to be somewhere between 7-9 wins. Yesterday was a winnable game. AVPs play calling at the end of regulation was a problem, the situation called for more clock use. Add to that; Brissett is not a dynamic thrower, he's not going to raise guys up, so they are going to have to scheme it, like they did with TEs yesterday. I have hope that they will find these weaknesses in defenses going forward and can keep themselves in the game. I am much more optimistic than I was pre-season, they are not nearly as far away as I thought, but they are far from being a top, elite team.
You can't be serious CB's can take a nap with Jacoby not throwing to our WR's because he's limited *Clog the Middle* Game over. Henry won't have another game like yesterday if LB 's and Safeties are teeing off on him. It's not a mystery anymore Jacoby can't throw outside the number unless there's a defensive breakdown...what you're counting on luck?? Drake Maye have the Arm to challenge all Levels of the Football Field. That's one of the reasons why we moved on from Jones: Jacoby seems even worse.

This is why I'm excited about this team. Plus, I really like the running game.
Agree the passing game can get better under Brissett.. but it will be maximized under Drake IMO. We have an elite running game. Think we are top 3 in the NFL

Agreed. At this point, with such limited offensive innovation, AVP comes into focus. Is AVP in over his head?
It's difficult to tell right now with AVP. There's a few holes in the offense that haven't been fixed and the QB is limited. They don't seem much more effective than last year though when they were historically bad.

I don’t think it would harm him either. Ive seen plenty qbs get their **** kicked in year 1 and rebound. The key is if things are still that bad once maye is in we have to prioritize OL next year with no exceptions. 1 season is ok but situations like andrew luck happen when you ask the qb to go multiple seasons getting drilled.

What really hurt them this year was the salary cap explosion. I thought they were going to be able to patch up the offense but the FAs that I thought might be there weren't available.

He's not in over his head, he's been an OC for years, tons of experience. He's done a good job developing the run game. But it does make me pine for Josh tbh. Why Pop is not getting the ball is beyond me, he's our primary matchup advantage.

I know it's early but could the running game be coming back? I wouldn't mind seeing the Pats go all John Riggins Redskins on the NYFL.

Jacoby could try a 3 step drop and throw in less than 2 seconds like Burrow did repeatedly in week 1. Hit Douglas on a quick slant. Brissett can't do it. That is not the OL's fault.

It is both the OL and Brissett's limitations.
I wonder how bad would it have to get to get Drake in there. Clearly he's given first team reps.. so I'm convinced the team is preparing him to be ready at any moment.

Journeyman QB + unproven/lacking in top-end WR talent + horrible pass-protecting OL = bottom 20% NFL offense

Sauce sleeping Thursday night it will be like a Bye-week game because we know Jacoby won't test him.

Oh I know. Your right. The running game is awesome.. we just need some representation of a passing game.. I can bet you sauce and DJ Reed won't even bother tieing thier cleats up.

I bet you if Tyquan caught a pass from Brissett sauce would go over and shake his hand.

Disagree with the WR part: match Pop Dougals and Tyquan with a QB who's complete and you'll see. I know Tyquan was going to suffer with a weak armed QB like Brissett. Put Drake Maye in and it's a completely different group night and day.

Gonzo was clearly looking at the outside guy cutting in as his responsibility. He didn't "forget" about Metcalf. I think the problem on that play is that with Bentley out and Dugger making the calls, Seattle in no-huddle got Dugger positioned by the sidelines covering a RB. How does he make calls effectively from there? He can't see the field and half his teammates can't hear him. Somehow he botched that call, cause Gonzo thought they were in zone.

It's always a combination of factors.
1 - Defenses know how to adjust to defend a teams' strength
2 - JB looked okay in week 1 when run game was dominant, and 1st half of week 2 - but SEA D saw what he can't do and forced that
3 - JB can't look to his left or 2nd read AND has a bad OL - inept for an intermediate pass-game plan... which is necessary for a bad OL.
4 - Lowe is not much better than last year. Onwenu is not athletic enough to be a great tackle.
5 - No WR threat to scare D. Most could okay, but need help.

Gaw lee.. I sure can't wait until I can hit TT on a deep drag for 40 yards.....

I said this before and will say it again Brissett is the worse QB fit for our WR's. We won't be able to evaluate them with a QB like him just like his predecessor he's a WR kryptonite.

When Bentley went out the commination suffered. Seattle began attacking the middle of the field. I hope Bentley will be ok we need him.

Whenever major decisions are made by Mayo's assistant coaches he should be stepping in and confirming or directing the decision.
I think you must trust your subordinates, giving them sufficient freedom that you can evaluate the quality of their work and their ability to work without constant supervision. That's the way i approached things when I was a department head anyway. Hire good people, let 'em work. If they require undue supervison, get rid of them and hire someone who can work without constant monitoring.
