Official Pregame Thread: Pats @ Panthers

On Sunday it will be 398 days since the Pats last had a winning record. Time to end that drought

Wynn weeks 1-6:

3 sacks
3 hits
8 hurries
3 penalties
46th/61 pass block efficiency

Wynn weeks 7-8:

0 sacks
2 hits
0 hurries
2 penalties
6th pass block efficiency

Tough matchup with Brian Burns. Wynn has a chance to turn the corner this week.

What kinda receivers gave Gilmore a run for his money?

I want to say none.

What can the Patriots do to exploit the Panthers D? And specifically Gilmore because, as said before, I love him but I _really_ want him to regret leaving NE. Just this week

Put N'Keal Harry on Gilmore, that will take Gilmore out of the game.

Some Mac love:

I usually try not to watch too much media stuff win or lose but I can’t help but enjoy watching orslavsky and rich Eisen gush over Mac and the pats this week. They’ve got me so hyped up

I think the bigger question is who do the Panthers put Gilmore on. The one thing about no one standing out as the biggest Mac Jones target on this team, the Panthers cannot just put Gilmore on the Pats' best receiver and lock him down and do significant damage to the offense if say you were defending against the Bengals where you will have him just shadow Ja'Marr Chase all game or Cooper Cupp for the Rams.

Rich Eisen has the added juiciness of being a Jets fan, so every time he gushes about Mac there's an undertone of "Dear God not again..."

Do 'stat keepers' count the number of RB "chip blocks" performed each game?
To this partial observer, Wynn was provided an inordinate amount of RB assistance vs LAC DEs.
And....some of the chips were spectacularly violent....and effective

He's still an elite CB1 and the Pats wouldn't fork over another 4m. I'm with Gilmore on this one. You don't mess around with elite corners. After Bill's mediocre staff messes things up with JC Jackson this offseason, get ready for a crappy smurf-CB soft-zone era again, deja vu the last time 2 John Carroll roommates were here.
your rant on the Pats FO is getting old. We know you are smarter than Bill and would do an infinitely better job as GM if you ONLY had the chance. But the first 5 words of your post is just WRONG. There IS a difference between being a good NFL starting CB and being an elite one. 2020, when he was healthy showed that Gilmore was trending down FROM his elite status. Then to go along with his current injury AND his age, the fact was Gilmore is likely to be a solid NFL starter for the next few year than his likely to be an elite one.

As for the contract, the problem was simple. Gilmore wanted more this year. And I think the Pats were willing to give him more, IF he'd had been healthy. But he wasn't. If he's had been willing to play 9 games for $7MM he'd still be here. But he didn't and he's gone. They did him a favor and traded him back home where he WAS willing to play 9 games for $7MM.

I would have rather he'd still be here. We could use him, and he would have made us better. BUT..... if he wasn't willing to play for the $7MM for half the season, then what would you want the team to do? FORCE him to play. Yeah, how would THAT work out. So you can complain about about what we got in return. THAT is reasonable IMHO, but if he wanted out, he wanted out. BTW - I think his comment about how his injury was handled is just BS justification. That would have come out LONG before he was traded.

He's gone and I wish him well (except for Sunday of couise) I expect him to be good, but not great

That was one of my finest L’s!
losing James White has been a BIG loss for this offense, that no one is talking about. The number of passes being thrown to our backs has dropped off a LOT. What was good for 6-8 targets a game as a specialist, not that is gone and hasn't seemed to have been replaced. Taylor would have seemed to have been the likely replacement, but thus far he hasn't proved he can be trusted in pass protection.

Look at how bad they F'd up the OLine the first 6 weeks.... for dumb reasons. Durant and Herron at RT for 6 straight weeks ??? Karras on the bench for 6 weeks. just like keeping Meyers on the bench for 6 wks last year and starting NKeal for 6 weeks until he got hurt. Baseline assumption now is just assume the offensive staff has NO CLUE who is good and who is bad. This is the same oc who thought Tim Tebow was a 1st round pick.

.
If only they had you as a coach, we could have been winning from day 1

History has shown that to be inaccurate. Which skill position players in the BB era busted here and went on to find success elsewhere? It’s a talent issue. Oddly enough, the rookie QB has been the least of the offense’s issues. So that’s why there’s hope.

Where did I say that?

I hope you’re right. I don’t think we are on the level of the Bills and Ravens at this point, though. I’d love to be wrong, of course.
How has history shown that to be innacurate? Even Brady with new players needed at least a 1/4 of the season to get on the same page in a lot of years. I don't know where you are going with the busted skill positions, had nothing to do with my post.

You didn't it was a rhetorical question.

I think we beat the Bills at least once.

I gave this post a Winner, but it really deserves a standing ovation.

According to DW Toys we are all cousins?

Saw a report Ruhle wanted Darnold to rush for 89 yards. He runs and gets consussed.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
